Hello all! Today is the first of my new blog series which will be a review of several different sodas/soft drinks/pop/whatever. I will include price and availability in the United States if my review makes you want to try the soda I'm covering.
Today I am reviewing one of my all-time favorites, Sprecher Root Beer. Sprecher is based in Milwaukee , Wisconsin and specializes in beers and gourmet sodas with their root beer being their flagship product. What makes this soda gourmet is that on top of the usual root beer ingredients such as yucca, they add vanilla and real honey to the handmade mixture and brewed over a flame. The end result is a root beer that has a pleasantly balanced yet robust root beer flavor with a noticeable taste of honey toward the end of its lingering kick. The smell is also pleasant, with the primary note being vanilla. Another plus for those of you who practice Kosher strictly is that this root beer is Kosher. The downside to this amazingly awesome soda is that one bottle contains 220 calories. For those of you who don't like high calorie beverages or have diabetes, there is a low calorie/sugar version that barely sacrifices flavor. NOTE: There is still some sugar in the low calorie version; it is not artificially sweetened.
I score Sprecher Root Beer a 9.5/10.
Sprecher is sold in a pack of four 16oz(1 pint) glass bottles. This is mostly a regional soda with the Great Lake states being the primary places where it is available in stores. If there are Menard's home improvement stores where you live, you can get it there. At my Menard's, it's about $4 for a pack. If you feel like you must have it, you can go to Sprecher's website for ordering details.
Thanks for reading this first entry in my new blog series, until next time!
