It's evident the ammount of time and effort that's been put into UG Profiles, MySpace is extremely disorganised as you mentioned, I can't even keep a track of what the hell's going on half the time, and I won't even mention bulletins, whore codes and those annoying fucking ads (Forgive the obscure words)...
The only thing I'll give credit to MySpace for is the bands that are on it, but even then, it's a website dedicated to popularity, not music. You should try to get bands to create profiles on UG Profiles... I think that would be cool... Major Kudos on you and the rest of the team quote

Yeah, that's pretty much what I dislike about myspace, though I gotta admit UGP is much better organized and WAY cooler since people here just come for the music, the guitar/bass and to chill out and maybe make some net friends in the process, not to have all the greatest videos or the most viewed profile or the highest number of "friends"...... definitely opposite to what over half the people at myspace use their accounts for. quote

I don't think it's like myspace at all, except for the LAYOUT (a little bit). Zappp, i think you COULD experiment with some other layout options..other than that it pwns. You can post your gear and pics of your gear. you can post your songs and have them rated, and even skill rated. Only thing i think is that the society of the UG profiles should expand and settle a little bit...i mean it's still in it's beggining phases, and i think it hasn't reached full usage yet - but that will happen i think .
The only things i could suggest is experimenting with a really original layout...that is the only thing i can suggest. I think the layout is the reason why it's called a myspace rip off (and it's not)...

to my above post, i'd like to add that it's really hard to come up with something original. it's that all of the myspace, hi5 and wahtever seem to have that standard layout. pics on the upper left, with additional personal info below, and then just blog and main body taking up the centre and most of the right side of the page...
also the UG MP3 player is alot like many other sites have. it's like an industry standard or something. i'm not saying it's unoriginal...i mean it looks original indeed, but it's always like that with online music players...a panel with play, pause, stop and whatever, and then a list of song links below...i know it's hard to change and be different, cause this seems to be the most ergonomic way, i'm just pointing out some similarities between most sites like myspace, hi5, and maybe even UG now...
Let's try being different, and yet the BEST. ofcourse, not to risk ergonomics..i think it would be cool if UG had a completely different desing than all the rest of the sites.

What I've been trying to say in my blog is that (exactly!) you can't come with smth different when you do mp3 player. Plus if people got used to some functions/layout section there is no big need to break their habbits. But we will try to make it different but still usable  quote

you know, i might be retarded, but i haven't found a way of getting to the index of profiles (where the search, and chrats are) except from manually typing profiles.ultimate-guitar.com...it would be nice if there was a link at the top of the page to 'profiles' or something. that would be quite nifty and neat

I dont see a need to be differnt to be honest. I mean the fact that this is only for guitarists pretty much sets it apart from any my space crap etc. I doubt non guitarists will come to register just to use its myspace features :P the lay out is fine, it works, trying to be differnt is what a lot of people say is why they're modern day emos, and look what happened there :P
As well as to the 'bog standard' features, like the MP3 player looking like all the others you've ever seen, well if it aint broke dont fix it, theres no need to come up with a new way of aranging a pause and skip button etc :P
I like it how it is, but I'm looking foward to the updates over the year(s) its gunna be great!
BTW are they're any plans to implement videos? (especially in the skills section, but also for the songs your write if you wanted to film your self performing them as well or w.e) That would be great, and I would be much more enthusiastic to use the skills function if people could see me to help out quote

Myspace is crap. UG is more tightly knit and it doesnt seem like there many "friend whores" who just try to get as many friends as possible. And Myspace doesn't have any useful things besides the social networking, while UG gives users access to tabs, lessons, and videos. quote

Well, I'm still kinda getting used to the whole UGP thing. I've only had mine for around a week, a little over, a little under, not sure. I have 7 or so friends I think and I haven't uploaded any songs or anything like that. On MySpace I guess there is more for me to do, there are more friends for me there, I have more photos, blah blah blah. But when I'm not busy enough, my work on my UGP will def out do my MySpace. So yeah.

Well, I am a web designer by profession, and I am very satisfied with the way UGProfiles look, the layout fits with the rest of the site, fonts are beautiful, and the colors too, I like the graphics, they're modern and have great coloring too...then, the structure on a member's profile is the most readable combination, it's clear and functional, and does not look like MySpace AT ALL! I have Myspace, and I really think it sucks
I have some suggestions if anyone cares.
1. Text fields and/or inputs should have a lighter, not #00000 background color It's very hard to see the cursor while typing, wouldn't you say?.
2. In the future it would be nice to have a choice of skin for the profile, like on www.netlog.com, they have great and beautifully designed skins, some even with guitars It would be a great thing to contact some of UG's webdesigner members to suggest a few skins, and then pick THE BEST ones.
3. Profile editing should be limited to very basic things, fonts and background/background images, for non coding members not to screw up the layout, like on MySpace. And the other reason are the ads, like those hidden in MS layouts and graphic tags.
This is all I wanted to say, and UG pwns MS! quote

I like myspace and UG Profiles. I don't feel the need to declare my allegiance to one or the other because I use them for different things. I use UG for talking to people about guitar and getting musician's opinions and stuff, and myspace for messing around on when I'm bored and talking to friends outside of college and such.

I don't really know how you could improve anything, and profile layouts are really hard to be "different" because besides guitar i know some CSS/HTML. This is a great site. I was thinking of a new design for you guys, and what if you could have an option to create something where users could create a channel (like youtube in a way)but put the music videos and gig videos on there for bands. I've used myspace before and it sucked. Everything was out of place, it was a headache to try to do anything.
UGP is so much more organized and has a lot nicer of a look to it. The whole "light grey on white and some more white" was really a headache.

Myspace hurts my eyes. I was amazed at how good the profiles looked on UG when I joined the site. I thought to myself: "They start off looking this good?"

I won't even mention that in my humble opinion there is nothing on the Net more disorganized, poorly coded and layouted than myspace... not to mention the worst design ever 
Anyway, call it myspace copy or call it cheap myspace copy that will only make it more challenging for us to become #1 guitar community and guitar website, and who knows some day you will call myspace a cheap copy of UG
