can't sleep, want to type so i'll just babble on here. So i got Phrazes For the Young last week. I've enjoyed what i've heard so far. I have been a fan of the Strokes since i heard them many years ago on Rodney on the ROQ and its been interesting witnessing JC's moves as an artist.
He makes some more moves on this disc. Layers of drum beats with vignettes of synth interludes and guitar workouts. Some strange sound mixing classical musical phrases with modern sounds please the ears. The guitar in the album is very impressive, too. the tones and rhythms he works out are very intricate. Overall a very good musical listen.
I like to relate to the lyrics as well. "Out of the Blue" and "Tourist". Words from 11th Dimension began to make sense after watching the full music video. "Left & Right In The Dark" is reminiscent of wide-eyed youth. My favorite song from the bonus disc is "30 Minute Boyfriend" for its very claustrophobic sound. "I Wish It Was Christmas Today" sounds like Arcade Fire's "Antichrist Television Blues"
Also listening to Lupe Fiasco's mixtape for the Lazers album. so far favorites are his lyric on "The One" (Slaughterhouse), "Thank You" (I ain't the bomb..) , "Popular Demand" and most definitely "Angels".
Revisiting some oldish albums: N.E.R.D. Seeing Sounds, M.I.A. Kala, O.M. Sunlandic Twins (already have Hissing Fauna memorized) need to get in that bouncy guitar mood..

So i recently got the double punch of budget KORG products: The MINI-KP (KAOSS PAD) and the KAOSSILATOR. I haven't had the chance to get RCA adapters, but i can't wait to get the full potential of these things. both are great in their own way. The KAOSSILATOR is a simple synth capable of some great sounds. The KAOSS PAD is an effects processor that has some cool effects including Filters (Low pass, high pass), Delays, Reverbs, Isolators, Crazy distortions, flangers and phasers. The Works, really. and the coolest thing the lack of knobs. only one knob on each machine.
I switched the interior cases on the machines so now the KAOSS PAD is black & yellow instead of the usual black and blood red, The KAOSSILATOR is silver & red. They look a lot better. Even just looking at them now i get inspired.

So I have COX cable at my new apartment and it has been a bitch trying to get the boxes to work! The one in the living room is freaking out at the moment. It has been spontaneously turning off and then turning on, only to load the signal for five minutes and then you can't get any picture. When you do get a picture, the guide channel display "No Data" for all the channels, so i don't know what to watch (I don't watch much television, so i don't know schedules off the top of my head). And when finally the signal has loaded, the data is displayed and the channels are working, the time freezes for an hour and its the same old song again! Whatever. I'm tired of it. I'm going out for a cigarette and then to bed.
So here i am coming home from Guitar Center. Today i bought an amp. An Acoustic AG60. Its a killer 60W acoustic amp. Loaded with features. What really stand out for me are the 4 mic/XLR combination inputs and the array of good effects, good sound balance with lots of bass, angled cabinet and line out with volume control. Very impressive.
My final little obsession is one i've been wanting since the days of El Ten Eleven's first album, the Digitech JamMan. After researching the ins and outs of pedal loopers, i found this one by Digitech. This pedal comes out as a Boss RC-20 killer, even out features the 20XL. And it has such a better name... Jaahhh Man!
So that's it for now. New Healthy Obsessions are tools that foster fresh ideas in the realm of music. New Healthy Obsessions is a trademark of witmachine productions.
I have somewhat of an addictive personality. It's not so much that i have vices, it's just that when i find something i like, i wrap myself up in it. This comes from a naturally curious nature. I am always happy to try something new, within reason, if time permits and if it interests me enough. So now this guy is interested in DRUM MACHINES. Particularly this one:
These things look like a lot of fun, and i'll be getting my hands on one these by the end of the week!!
My main motivation to get a drum machine now is to use for recording. THE BAND made our first recordings on FL a few months ago and though there were many tracks that were solid (MIND LIMP, LA LA, FREEDOM) the rest were lacking a little ... OOMPH (CNSMRSM, WOMANIZR, VIVA). They missed good drums.
FL had some promising kits, but somehow how we couldn't make it work. What CNSMRSM, WOMANIZR & VIVA need are some good hip hop kit sounds. I'm not sure what MINDLIMP may need, i think it sounds good as a vulnerable yet powerful epic. FREEDOM may just need the good deep djembe sound with which it was first incarnated. B4U GO UR WAY might just need some good production beat from urs truly
I'm fixing up an old speaker so i can have a designated output for this machine.
Once I or my girls master the streetboxx i hope to use it live...
I don't listen to very much 'new' music, nowadays. The industry is so messed up in trying to make a dollar, that today's rock music formula has grown to be insipid, not more excited than burnt toast! But there are a few inspired artists releasing albums that are as exciting as ever...
Danger Mouse and Sparklehorse Present: Dark Night of the Soul
There's some basic information on wikipedia, with the major source of information being from NPR. The only other source information seems to come from the original website, dnots.com. All I know is that the music is the most thrilling and enjoyable rock genre album I've listened in a minute...
As well as having good music, the album promotion seems to be pretty inventive. The album is officially released May 29th, but no music will be sold. Instead of an album, a blank CD-R will be sold accompanied with a book of photographs...
from the official website: Due to an ongoing dispute with EMI, Danger Mouse is unable to release the recorded music for Dark Night Of The Soul without fear of being sued by EMI
A book of original photograhs by DAVID LYNCH is available for sale on the official website for Dark Night of the Soul. The photographs are inspired by and based on the music and provide a visual narrative for the music. Included with this, a blank recordable CD-R which will be clearly labeled: "For Legal Reasons, enclosed CD-R contains no music. Use it as you will."
There was a good, shaking earthquake here in the promised land (Southern California) about a half hour ago. USGS reports a magnitude of 5 for this one. That means a quick stirring of the ground and a good roll that lasted about ten seconds. I didn't think too much of the quake... My girlfriend is an Arizona native and so naturally she was freaking out and all that. I think it is her second earthquake experience...My mom was asleep and had i not called her she probably wouldn't have noticed. Well that's it for now.
I think earthquakes are exciting as they remind us that we are not always in control... Planet Earth is much larger and powerful than we think...
Next thing i wanna write is about all-natural, non-commercialized substances that are more beneficial than what big pharmaceutical drug companies are peddling...
I have been troubled by sleeplessness for many years and until recently found it very difficult to deal with my insomnia. I developed a taste for late-night coffee and mild frustration while studying for AP classes (university level courses) in High School. This paired with my nervous attitude and I formed a strong case of insomnia. Years passed and i began taking more strenuous classes in my study for a Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering. Needless to say, insomnia wasn't a very healthy study tool. But along with college came the experimention of drugs... Some of which have brought to my attention the unnecessary need of prescription/pharmaceutical drugs and a legitmate system of "alternative" medicine. I personally don't think of natural medicines as "alternative" but it's certainly what they've been labeled by the government/FDA/drug industry. Anyways, i'll get into the specifics later as i am now dozing to sleep...
I am practically done with the tab for Bloodstone's "Natural High". I am a little stuck at the solo, but i am work through with the bass part som that may help. I'll need to tab out the last 8 bars of the solo and then i'll put it up
I'm not tabbing the awesome outro because it's just a string vamp and has no guitars...
What a weekend||| so C. and I met up and talked about the stressors in our life. we found that we weren't causing stress on each other and it was a great relief... after going out for a drive around around balboa. Saturday night we went to LA to watch the Pacquiao/Hatton fight.. if you could call it a fight, that is. After listening to some Karaoke we headed back home. Sunday was spent walking round burlington coat factory and kohls... and we enjoyed a refreshing jamba juice... "small pleasures fill the sails of happiness"
i finally tabbed the verse, bridge and chorus to "Natural High" here are the chords to the chorus..
Emaj7 Take To The Sky On A Natural High A Am Loving You More 'Til The Day I Die E Take To The Sky On A Natural High A Am Loving You More...
