Hi, I'm Ronald Poe (you commented on my topic earlier today). Just wondering where I could sign up for your Extreme Metal project. I generally write electronic music my way and have been told I'm pretty good. I don't have adequate recording equipment and mostly just use FL Studio. I'm interested in Extreme Metal and think a collaboration would be a great learning experience and a lot of fun. Send me some ideas if you agree (preferably in Guitar Pro 5 or Midi format).

Hope you have a good day.

that's the great thing, i'm spreading that notion (which i agree with) without taking any responsibility for it!

Alright then! :D

Not sure if you mean that in a good way or a bad way XD

Hey dude, we talked on here a while ago and just thought I'd let you know that we have an EP up for free on our bandcamp if you're interested. Also, keep me posted on new shit you're writing. I just listened to Feast of Dreams again and its fucking sick.

in my limited experience (i've read this in reviews too), EastWest sounds have a bit more oomph by default so it's easier to get a powerful sound from it. i'm happy with Philharmonik though.

your mixes are better than mine, but in case you haven't discovered some of this stuff yet: 08

Haven't read the whole thing yet, but the first bit about velocity switching is muy helpful. I've been doubling legato/staccato patches for most of the big instruments, and this should help clear that up.

what's a chorium? can't find anything about it.

if it's a VST, i used philharmonik.

Chorium is a free soundfont with some great orchestral patches (especially strings and choir). I used it until I got Philharmonik on an impulse buy a few days ago (it was on sale for $60 and Jani Liimatainen says he loves it). And if Philharmonik works for you too, I'm kind of glad I didn't get EastWest.

holy shit dude, you're playing at the korpiklaani tour? i just saw them last night! kudos to you.

Sorry I didn't see this before, I wish they would give a notification or something....

Yeah, man! We went on before Metsatoll. God damn, that was such a fun show. I'm totally hooked on Tyr now.

ExDementia wrote on Aug 11th, 2012 10:27pm

Hey man, if you still want to check out that song I was telling you about, I have it up. p?t=1556561

I would appreciate any feedback you can give.

thanks for the encouraging feedback dude, you made my day! i used to be really into going for long songs as well (my other two older songs are both near 10 minutes), but i want to think that i've since learned some restraint. although it's probably just that i can't come up with that much stuff to put in one song.

i see you're an engineer as well, high five! i just finished college, working in software now.

good luck with the band, and do let me know when you post more songs!

What did you get your degree in?

Also, if you're interested, I do need some feedback on some songs we're working on. There are some disagreements within the band on the direction of the album so I might just take you up on your offer. I need someone in the genre to be able to look at it from the outside.

Heard of Symantec? They have an office in SF. Job isn't terribly exciting, but at least the people are nice.

I mostly play metal, but I want to try not limiting myself when I can.

Here's my latest musical find, it's black metal/prog rock/etc.:

Are you really busy this semester?

Nice. I'm still looking for summer work so I can hang around in the Bay. I dig the tune. Reminds me a little of Opeth's newest album (which is incredible, if you haven't heard it). I'm not too buys. Have a little more normal course load, and only 4 more weeks of class.

i think i'm burnt out, period. i'm taking one class and working part time at the job i'm going to be working full time when summer comes.

i didn't know you were so into music/songwriting - perhaps we should jam/collaborate some time!

Nice man, where are you working? I'm always down to jam. Mostly play rock and funk. Just discovering what I can do with prog rock writing, and having a lot of fun there. You?

yup, mad coincidence! i saw your long post of lyrics (interesting stuff, btw), saw your username/location, then saw "kieli" in your sig and i thought, no way!

hope your semester is going well?

Its going pretty good. I'm kind of burnt out from last semester, but I'm surviving. How bout you?

hey man, how's it going?

i just checked out your portfolio thing, awesome stuff! especially the 3d modeling. is that what you're going to school for?

a few semesters ago, i took a class where i made a 3d short with some classmates, just thought i'd show you. i think the animation is shit, but it was my first go at composing a soundtrack for anything!

I thought the animation was pretty decent and it had a good plot. The music fit it as well. But Nah, I go to school for general graphic design and 3D modeling/Animation is a side thing. That would cost way to much money to major in. XD

yo, yea i'm always down to try and compose music with other people. it's never happened here yet though...

i've heard of Catamenia, but it was back when i couldn't make sense of black metal and i didn't make anything of them. i like your list of favorites though!

Really, I don't know how collabs work, but it looks like you're into the same stuff, so that might work out (and that "black metal sketch" sounds great).
Thanks for the bit about my faves. :D

Cavalcade wrote on Nov 15th, 2011 1:14am

You said something about a collaboration somewhere?
Also, hell yes to Shade Empire. Have you heard of Catamenia?
