Guitar mags, download festival .... between the bu
Current mood: cranky
Ok so before I kick off this little rant/blog I'm probably going to mention Between the Buried and me a lot ... mostly just using them as an example though so here we go.
So I'm listening to some music and looking through some old total guitar magazines and ... maybe I've just missed them but really it seems looking through the mags I have here that British guitar mags just seem totally unadventurous as far as the bands they feature go.
Now I understand that big name players like Slash, EVH, Hendrix etc are big draws for the magazine and so it's no surprise that they feature on the covers at regular intervals but really they just seem to aim magazines at players with a more mainstream musical taste or the same kindof guys who insist that no matter what Led Zep has the best guitar work ever written.
would it really hurt them to have at least one tab or interview (more than just a paragraphs mention) in their magazine for perhaps a less well known band.
now I didn't want this to sound like a rant in which I go "wah wah the bands I like don't get featured etc" which isn't true because they do but it seems that mentions are few and far between (that I've seen) and when they are they're in the mags it's usually tiny bits of coverage tucked away in the corners of pages for example the only time I've seen mention of Between the Buried and me was a quarter page feature on the band with 1 actual question in the "monitor" section after they released "Colors".
Which brings my rather un-neatly to my next point ... download festival
you may not agree with me on this but .... what the fuck it going on with the line up?
Kiss? headline? ... ok it's been brought up a lot but it's not what confuses me most about the festival.
You have a band like Between the Buried and me who have been playing for about 8 years, who have 5 albums (not including their demo) midway up the ... 3rd stage on the Sunday of the festival ... whereas on the same day, opening the main stage is a band called Glamour of the Kill ....
now once again ... perhaps I've just missed this band but who the fuck are Glamour of the Kill? ... why do they take precedence over bands like
Testament
The Fall of Troy
Between the Buried and me
The Dillinger Escape Plan
The Cavalera Conspiracy
Children of Bodom
It just doesn't make sense to me, I know they need to have a commercial draw but the whole thing just seems screwed up to me.
Anyway fuck it, it is the way it is but venting on a guitar site is at least one way to pass the time
I just recorded a track i've been working on for a few hours earlier today, it's a little tapping composition check it out and let me know what you think
the tracks called sunrise and it's bare bones right now, ill probably be working more on it in the next few days, adding some harmony parts and generally fleshing it out
Just put a new mp3 up on my profile, its nothing much, just some faux classical picking but ive added a couple of solo's recently aswell so go check them out and let me know what you guys think
