i don't know about many of you, but i've noticed that alot of people are starting to play the guitar, and for the wrong reasons. The way i see it, you should start guitar if you have a passion for music and want to play a great instrument, but most people seem to be going out and buying a guitar to impress the girls(although that is 1 good benefit), but mostly cause it makes them "look" cool to own one. Then they go and learn an easy, "popular song" like american idiot or something, and suddenly everyones like "oh yeah, go you, your awesome", and it really pisses me off cause I sit down and learn songs of different difficulties, and I even write my own stuff, but thats overlooked cos its not as good as a professionals song, even if its the most basic thing ever.
I've also noticed that peoples view of guitarists has changed. It used to be "yeah, i play guitar", followed by "woah, great my band needs a guitarist, they're so hard to find." but now its more like "oh, well thats cool. My bands looking for a guitarist, I ask you to join but we're holding auditions for the other hundred people in town that play."
I don't no if i'm being a bit harsh there, but thats how i feel!!!
i couldnt agree more. i know hundreds of people who just say "oh mummy i would like to play guitar" and mummy and daddy go out and buy them a gibson or a fender which they never play but just have for appearances, i started off with a £30 second hand guitar and it didnt do me any harm
