That is C major, but what the guy tabbed out in the lesson was the C major scale. The C Major chord (above) is taken from the First, 3rd and 5th intervals in the C major scale. the C Major scale has the notes C D E F G A B in it. the first (root note or the tonal) is of course, C. the third (Major third) is E, and the 5th (Perfect 5th) is G.
Now look at the notes being played in the C major chord

You can see that the notes you play there correspond to the Root, Major 3rd and Perfect Fifth intervals in the C major scale. You can also make a C major 7th chord by adding in the 7th interval, which in this case is B.
