I am really excited about this song, called ghost train. I'm still no where near my dreams of writing music as amazing as boards of canada but I definitely nailed a spooky amtosphere here. I wrote this piece all in the last 6 hours and it is all written by me (I claim no credit, however, for the royalty free children laughing). Funnily enough this song started out life today as a an acoustic guitar intro with a deftones style verse and chorus and a wah solo. Soon the acoustic guitar became a piano and the distorion disappeared, being replaced with a nylon string. Then the guitars all disappeared as did the piano and I created it in synth form.
Note the low quality drum parts in the intro and that they are high quality in the main song; it was intentional.
Overall, I feel this is a huge step up from my previous attempts at electronic music (the two others on my profile). However, this was a "rushed" job and with more time spent on it, I could probably improve. The main thing to learn is to use small synth parts all weaved into the track instead of the definitive bass, melody, rhythm type thing I seem to be stuck with now
So any comments (good or bad) would be appreciated.
Right, for a while now I have been singing to myself when no body else is home (I always do) but my dad has always said I'm a crap singer. But I don't really care. So I recorded myself with the mic that came with my phone and played a song I wrote. I came up with the idea one afternoon and then recorded it in about 5 minutes, so I didn't get time to do multiple takes. The lyrics are rushed and the guitar is unfinished, but I'm trying to make excuses.
So, If anyone has the time could they please listen to my profile song and give me an idea of my singing/songwriting abilities
For 6 months it lay in my room,
No sound plugged in or otherwise,
I forgot it and forgot electronics,
as I thought my stuff wouldn't work,
Anyway,
Swapped two wires on stereo input jack round,
It works like a charm,
and the Jimmy Chamberlin Complex,
who I am listening to at this very moment,
are intersting,
and mildly odd.
Today I started to play Slide. I tuned to poen E and learnt a song about a broom. It's quite good and I prefer this to fingerpicking (even though I have to fingerpick when I use the slide). I don't know what other options there are apart from these two and tapping but I'll find out.
