Favorite bands :
Rush, Anti-Flag, Rx Bandits, The Mars Volta, Streetlight Manifesto, and The Clash. I could go on but these are probably the most well-known bands that produce or have produced an artwork that has changed me personally. I do listen to more diverse music than this but this is a pretty damn accurate representation my favorite bands, and not ones that I have recently found and am infatuated with at the moment.
Favorite guitarists :
Omar-Rodriguez Lopez, Matt Embree, Alex Lifeson, John Frusciante, Hendrix (mainly because of his ability to express himself although not my favorite expressions). (Just to name a few)
Lennon, but not because of his ability or because of his death so much as the way he lived his life and how he incorporated the guitar into it, I say this because I feel he expressed himself in vocals more than with his guitar.
Favorite bassists :
Marfred Rodriguez-Lopez, Chris Barker (#2), John Myung, Juan Alderete, Michael Peter Balzary (Flea), Paul McCartney, Officer of the Court Gary Lee Weinrib (DUH!) (also that's Geddy Lee fyi)
**** and I emphasize not in that order, and extend that for all of these lists.
Favorite books :
Books authored by Phillip K Dick, Ayn Rand, Jeff Grubb (sometimes), Hunter S. Thompson, and Karl Marx. There are more but just to keep it short these authors write well (conceptually I may or may not agree with some of the authors so don't PM me and go on a rant about how I'm a fascist, or a communist)
Favorite tv :
Archer, South Park, The Daily Show, Ugly Americans, Morel Orel, etc.
Favorite movies :
Most movies directed by Darren Aronofsky, Christopher Nolan, David Fincher, and some of Richard Linklaters. For a few.
I'm a college student, and an employee of a Merchandising company. I desperately want to be good enough at guitar to be able express myself with it, whether or not people want to hear my expressions. I picked up the guitar late 2011, shortly after my girlfriend and friend (both of which I'd known for a long time) died and I feel at fault. But the positive is it galvanized me into finally picking up the guitar, because everyone I've ever met has told me it's something I would be good at and enjoy it (even a judge in a courtroom during proceedings has told me this, which I thought completely unprofessional). But ever since I've started it's been important to me... Probably more than you need to know but its why I started playing.
