This is my second attempt at teaching myself to play guitar. The first time I did not put any real efforts. I picked up my guitar now and then but didn't take time to learn any thing about anything. I looked for tabs and gave up because I did not know anything about finger position or finger movement. This time I am beginning with scales. It was once recommended by friend that plays the guitar. But I didn't know where to begin and so I played random notes on random strings.
I had a decent Strat style red electric guitar with three single coil pickups. It had volume and tone control, with a 5 way selector. Also a low grade mass manufactured acoustic guitar. No amp, well I did have a 9v battery operated mini amp. No effects pedal, I didn't have any idea that was most important to get the right sound.
This time I am beginning with scales and some chords. I am beginning with basic music theory. I am happy with what I have learn by teaching myself. I take that and teach it to my wife and she learns along with me.
I have far more better understanding of the equipment. I know have two guitars a nice sunburst Laguna and a low grade electric acoustic. The Laguna I bought at a pawn shop and the acoustic on ebay real cheap. I it decent enough to use but not at good as it can be. I will be investing on a much better replacement when I get a chance. I also invested in two Line 6 amps, a few pedals and cords.
