I heard that you know a lot about vintage fender amps, and recently ive been looking at a blackface fender bassman for about $850, it has a 3 stage Rick Onslow mod(not really sure what that is). Anyhow would that be a good deal?

So I tried out a Swart Space Tone Reverb! The little 5 watter.

I live in CT, so I was exploring Manhattan to find some guitar shops that actually don't suck. I found Ludlow Guitars, and it's great. I'm assuming you know it?

I was really using it to try out a Moog Ring Mod, but that plus the Swart plus a Jazzmaster was like *heavenly chorus*

Just thought I'd tell you because you've recommended those amps a lot, plus you live nearby. :P

Okay, I appreciate it good sir!

So, I went to check it out today. It's a VoiceMate YVM-3; the head and a speaker. He's giving it to me for $100 CDN. He bought it about 12 years ago used, for about $350, which he claimed was a deal. My questions are: As this seems like a quality SS mixer/amp/PA, can it handle pedals, or will it clip and sound horrible? Also, how much do you think it's actually worth? It can't actually be an $100 amp. If you can litter me with info on yours that'd be great. Thanks man.

Hey Slats, I was wondering if you could get back to me. I need your help; it concerns an older Traynor "PA", I suppose, and I want to know what you think. sum_ugly_man recommended I talk to you, soo...

Another question, what's the difference between the 210 and the 115 model in terms of sound? Is it worth waiting a few months for a 115 rather than getting a 210 sooner?

I'm sticking with poor man's AC30. It's an EL84 based amp with reverb and tremolo, giving it a voice and similar features to the classic Vox. Outside of the Blues and Pro Jr., Fender's are all either 6V6 or 6L6 based, giving them that classic Fender clean sound. Peavey makes their amps look like tweed Fenders, but the internals are much more like the British amp.

Alrighty then, looks like I've found an amp then. Thanks.

Hey, slats, it's another online chump who wants some advice. So I've heard (or read, whatever) you say that the Delta Blues is the poor man's AC30. But then I've heard others say it's a more Fender-type circuit. So which one is it?

20+? My boys are 10 and 12, unfortunately they only like Guitar Hero at this point, but it's a start!

hey slats, hows it going, would you mind answering a couple of questions about your ac30 for me?

firstly, what do you think of the speaker? have you got the stock "neodog" one still in there?

secondly, although i'm sure youve answered this a million times, how heavy can it get? with an overdrive can it give a good 80's metal/hard rock kind of sound ala Guns and Roses, Black Sabbath etc? i know thats not the sound its designed for but it would be nice to know whether it could or not.

how does it compare to the classic 30 in this sense? which has more gain and which is the most versatile?

lastly, if it cant do these sorts of sounds even with an overdrive then what does it sound like with a distortion pedal? i was thinking of getting an MI Audio Crunchbox if it cant do all that i want it too?

Ha, dude, I just got one of the Yamaha FG series acoustics from my dad a week ago. It's the 350 though. These are definately some of the best-sounding acoustics...

Hey slats, saw your vast knowledge spread around the place and thought I'd drop you a quick question.

What do you think of the Fender Blues Deluxe? I'm just wanting a really good clean amp to complement my Laney VC-15 which just doesn't have enough headroom. I;d be willing to do a speaker swap if you think that's necessary.

Cheers :)
Either way, eBay is probably your best bet.

Those amp-in-cases go for a lot of money. Have you ever tried one? It's really a cool little amp in the thing. Very Champ-like. I watch those guitar case combos all the time, but they always seem to go for more than I'm willing to spend at the moment. And seeing pics of Jimmy Page and George Harrison holding the guitar still doesn't convince me that it's any good. :p:
they really are good guitars.. very specialized sound though.. you can get a bluesy thick tone and a bright tele style sound.. and thats about it
but they're great guitars, IMO
