yea, that was sad. i kinda knew it wasa posibility just from the way she was acting. she was suddenly very ill on the saturday, but the vet wouldnt see her til monday. their first verdict was either leukema (sp) or tumeurs. after a few days of havingher on pills etc, she seemed better.

but then, she LOOKED better we knew the steroids and drugs where only making her feel better. so she went back to the vets on thurs. had afew more tests - you know the drill. Turned out she had a little internal bleeding, a tumour on her spleen and a large one on her liver. there were a few options. one was intrusive surgery to remove her spleen, and then chemo etcfor the liver. but there was little chance of her recovering if we did that, and it seemed kinda to have her put down then. We were told she may have anything from days to a couple of months left. We didnt thing it fair to be selfish and keep her alive just for us. she would have appeared happy for a little while with the drugs and all - but she would still be dying.

so about 2.40 we went up. we caught the vet taking her for a walk before we arrived, and i admit, it was nice to say goodbye in private. we took her back up to the vets. went through the options. said goodbye, and watched her die. it was very peacefull. it was nice to think that the last thing she knew was just sitting on a table being fussed by her family.

After that we took her to a small crematorium. it was a privately run one by a real animal lover. it was harder leaving her there as she looked so peaceful (they had set up a small room with blankets etc - kinda like a last resting place. it wasnt a clinical type at all).#

she was the best dog we had. but im pleased knowing that we did the kindest thing for her and manged to give her the dignity in death that the mast majority of humans do not get. Im just waiting for the call from the crematorium to say we can pick up her ashes. the hardest bit now is getting used to the house without her. its silly little things like my mother checking there was enough water before going to bed or me opening the patio doors a little when i get up so she can go out again. and thenr ealising she isnt here anymore.

R.I.P rosie
