My mate plays the Banjo, and bass, so he's fun to groove with...
Finnally sat down and learnt the main riff to Tommy the Cat last night, its one of if not my favourite song ever, but Ive always been intimidated by it,and put off learning it, however, within an hour I had it down at about 2/3rds the speed nice and crisp, but it goes higgledy piggledy when i go faster, practice practice practice, lol you learnt anything fun recently? |
I've been trying to transcribe the Freebird solo to bass. it's been tough.
I've mostly been trying to work on my country and preclassic rock style grooving, so I can do more than just root fifth and two feel. I can solo, but my riffs need a lot of help right now. proves you have to practice everything a lot, not just the hard stuff.

sounds pretty sweet man, I envy the fact you play with loads of musicians, I can imagine it really helps improve your techniques and expands musical horizons, good luck dude, and keep thumping that low end
talk soon,much spafeness |
it does... but you also have to please everyone... sometimes I wish it was just a few guys.
then I duel with a banjo and forget those thoughts
you keep them grooves pumpin, someone needs to show them Brummies a good bassline.

the humanity wrote on Jul 15th, 2008 7:28pmcool! connections always help man.
I'm getting well known for my combination of unusual stage antics and developmental blues-rock style, which fits in extremely well with the ridiculous amounts of instruments here, if I say so myself. If I can learn the guitar solo for Freebird on bass, they wil add it to the set list.
Me and Giaco have a band, but it seems to be coming along pretty slow.
but if it works, it will be amazing.
My jam musicians back home are now jamming with each other, which may result in my becoming part of yet another band when I get back home. I also plan on getting a new bass and amp, which will be really sweet. quote |

will do some snooping for drum rebellion in a tick sir
my bass is still a short-scale, actually Im convinced its shrinking...I swear the body is wahahay smaller than it was...an no,Im not getting fat, Im pre-empting that one!!! |
They are a lovely band! your singer and drummer especially impress me. The cowbell thingy at the intro of untitled eleven is really cool.
you know, the smaller the bass, the easier the carry.
good luck at the bar academy, do a stage dance for me!

No bullshit though - when I woke up today, I had fall of the Psychonaut stuck in my head. quote |
smb wrote on May 14th, 2008 10:03pmThanks very much - it's bookmarked to listen when I'm not busy. I listened to the first track a couple of days ago and it's damn good stuff. quote |
WhyLater wrote on May 6th, 2008 3:27pmWell, then, good taste in music sir.
I really like that demo... don't see a band on your profile though. You should put some more stuff up, you've got a good groove. quote |
thefitz wrote on May 6th, 2008 1:28pmDang man, that's the one. They don't come up very often. The big selling point for me would be to harmonize with the guitar so that when the guitarist solos, it sounds like nothing has dropped out - or, if anything, something is added. In heavy bands, that's key - nobody wants half the intensity to drop away.
I achieve a similar effect with my ($500 setup of :S) Micro POG and Fulltone. I turn the upper octave to the point that it's as loud as everything else, and the lower octave up to a point where you can't hear it on the lower notes but on the higher notes you hear it (i.e. there's ALWAYS a bass note going on). I'd love to tinker with that pedal or use it in combination with the Fulltone/Micro POG to see what crazy shit I can come up with, but if I had that kinda money right now for gear, I'd put it towards my custom fretless.
Good find, man. Sound clips. quote |
thefitz wrote on Apr 1st, 2008 5:20pmYeah, the actual "playing" part is great. I just find that in my stage of the game, the politics involved in getting the gig usually hamper the experience. I'm sick of having girls dance like strippers to our songs and random people film us on cell phones, while some generic metal band wins the prize.
However, I will say this: most people talk about the thrill of being on-stage, and all that - better than sex, better than an Indian buffet, etc. To be honest, however, I'm so busy on-stage with singing, playing, and thinking of shit to say in between songs that I never have the time to actually think "OMG!" quote |
thefitz wrote on Mar 30th, 2008 10:29pmRight on. And how are you finding the new band? Do you all get along? That, to me, is a very important thing. As is doing exactly what I say as soon as I say it.
But yeah, good work, and keep it up. I can't help but feel that I started way, way, WAY too late playing onstage. I wasn't even playing bass at your age! Not like there's a huge age difference or anything, but I wished I had played live as soon as I wrote half the songs I did. quote |
thefitz wrote on Mar 27th, 2008 5:21pmOther than that I just realized today that your name isn't skippy_MONgoose, I can't think of anything.
As far as down time, we're working on new stuff - one song in particular I'm very excited about, but I won't expect to have any recordings until the summer time, maybe fall. These things are difficult and take time. I think we're going to try recording ourselves. We also want to redo a lot of things that we've worked on since gigging.
But, on the gig front, I think we have a lot of stuff lined up for the semi-immediate future - that said, I don't want to give away details before I have them. quote |
