Hi, I'm shortyafter and I play the guitar. Actually, I play guitar, bass, drums, and I sing. Truth be told I'm kind of bad at all of them. I never practice at all. Maybe it's because I have no desire to play anything technically difficult, or maybe it's just because I'm lazy.
My true loves are songwriting and performing. I don't really care about mastering any instrument. As long as I can play competently enough to write and perform good music, I'm happy.
My favorite genre is Ramones-style pop punk. It's fun, catchy stuff but it's still "real" music. I think that's awesome. I'm also a big fan of ska, 2-tone is my favorite type but third wave stuff is okay too. My other love is 50's style rock n roll ala Chuck Berry.
The music on my profile is from 3 sources: The Vitals, The AB's, and my solo writing.
I play guitar and sing for The Vitals, my main band. We never agree on what genre we play but if I had to pick I'd say power pop. I write most of the music but the other guys contribute a lot. We're really slow when it comes to writing original material but we have a lot of fun playing. This band gives me my only chance to perform live so it's obviously my main focus.
The AB's is a 2-man side project I started over the summer. We started off writing "joke" songs but they ended up being pretty catchy so we decided to make the project official. I play guitar, bass, and sing for the project.
Lately I've started writing some pop punk songs on my own. My band would never play true pop punk so it looks like it's going to be a solo project for now. I'm hoping to write a good amount of material by myself and maybe start a new band some time, but surprisingly nobody in my town is really into pop punk.
I know my singing isn't great but I'm constantly working to get better at it. When I started off singing in a band about 3 years ago I was absolutely horrid - I've definitely come a long way since then but I've still got a ways to go.
So, that's it, if you made it this far then I'm impressed. See you around!
