Oooh, yes, I know that feeling very well. Mmmm, I'm not going for a while at least, finances are... a bit constricting in terms of that kind of thing. Maybe in the future though.

Nawww okay. Well, good luck in your future endeavors! :)

Wow... That just seems so weird to me. I mean, a couple of months ago I wanted to go a gig (featuring my two favourite bands - missing it was not an option) in a city about 80 miles away. It took almost a month to convince my parents to drive me there and back.

I have absolutely no semblence of balance between the two :haha: I only got my acoustic in September, so I was kinda balanced for a few weeks. But then I went to uni and only took the acoustic, so that's all I've played for the last almost-three months. Though since I got back it's been all electric, so you could say if I play Eddie constantly until I'm back at uni in January it'll be more or less balanced.
Side note: I've been back less than a day and already experienced the joy of accidentally figuring out how to play a great song. Methinks the next month will be rather enjoyable :D

That's why rehearsals are supposed to be longer than gigs - to accomodate for arguments, lateness and idle chit-chat. And hey, tea is very important! :p
Still, at least you managed an almost-full rehearsal for once, even if it was 50% procrastinating. Point of minor curiosity: since it's a 200 mile round trip for you, I'd assume you don't just go to the rehearsal and go straight home? Though that may well be my English mindset coming into play again, you Americans don't seem to regard distance the same way as us.

Incidentally, have you ever gone ages only playing acoustic, then gone back to electric? I just came home for Christmas and started playing Eddie, I swear it's like learning to play all over again :haha:

Graduated this past June, and I'm taking an indefinite break, so right now, nope! You?

Phwar nice nice. Just gonna be chillin then lol. Not planning on going to Uni or anything? I graduated about 2 months ago, at last. Feels heaps good to be all relaxed hey.

 I do believe you've just given me a most excellent idea for a cover band :p

If they're in fairly local colleges (at least, more local than you are) then it isn't really a good excuse at all - assuming they have even half as much free time as I do. Highschool is probably a more legitimate excuse, if it's as time-consuming as my last year of college, but still... A couple of hours a week isn't much to set aside. Yours if the excuse excuse I'd deem acceptable, but that's probably because I'm English - here, driving 100 miles will get you most of the way across the country :haha:
Still, whether the excuses are good or not, if you're managing to (more or less) stay together with all those things going on, I've gotta say that's pretty impressive.

Nice to meet you too, I'm Sara. Not much, just sleep and music. You know. The usual. And yourself?

Sounds like some rather delectable activity you're engaging in bro. Much the same here, to be honest. You still in school and stuff?

Add another 2 members and you'd be re-enacting Slipknot's early days. You know there's a guy in the band that's only there because the rest were too scared of him to kick him out, even though they'd already replaced him?
I'll never understand the mentality of regularly not showing up, but at least if it's always different people who don't bother then after a few weeks everyone will have practiced with everyone else... And that's ALMOST as good as practicing as a full band :D

Maybe they're just sceptical that you would be given such a direct sign? You should track down this clone and get photographic evidence of his existence. Or just shoop Rick Astley onto some random guy in Wendy's
If they're still willing to ignore the signs and risk being Smitten (past tense of Smite, I swear it!), then you'll just have to play everything yourself. Which will no doubt be yet another valuable learning experience :p

I don't blame you for being proud, that's a mighty fine beerstein :)
Replace 2009 with 2007 and that could very well be The Snearwils' motto too; in the 2 years since the erstwhile drummer asked me to join, we've had 2 rehearsals, 2 recording sessions (only one of which yielded results) and the rest of the time it's basically been me and the vocalist playing acoustic covers of songs that shouldn't really be acoustic :D

And that's somewhat brilliant, she's definitely a keeper :haha: Have you actually done it, or is it a work in progress kinda thing?
I feel a similar way about our vocalist; aside from us being close friends and the only people to ever write anything for the band, he's most certainly the only person who will ever go along with my ideas for pun-based concept albums

Wow... You may very well be the first person who hasn't threatened/tried to slap me for bragging about a gig :p

Thanks for the tip, but I don't think I'll be making any more merch. At least, not with my current band. The official stance is we're on hiatus while I'm at uni, but in all honesty it was never a serious band to begin with; just 3 friends having a bit of a laugh. And now with me being out of town and the drummer being a total dick, I don't think we're up to much more than drunken a capella renditions of our hits in pubs at closing time :haha:
Besides, the way our last batch turned out it's probably for the best that we're not getting any more opportunities to make merch - I have a total lack of design skills and the vocalist lacks the technical savvy to realise that when you make a small picture very big, it becomes more pixellated than a Tetris block. Although I must admit, I'm intrigued by the mention of your beersteins... Got any linkage? :D

Perfection 101 wrote on Dec 8th, 2009 12:02am

Aye, I can attest to that; they're one of those rare bands that know how to work the crowd perfectly in any situation, so they can put on a great show whether they're playing in front of 500 or 5000. Sorry to brag :p
And yes, seriously! It's short for Employment Pathways for Interns and Co-ops :D

Congrats with those upcoming jobs, even if the money's not great at least you'll be doing something musical - most of my musician friends are spending their time working in supermarkets, so you could have a pretty big advantage in the future :)
Any you're pretty lucky to have any merch to (not) sell, too. My band had a brief look into getting some stuff made, but the most we could afford was 3 shirts, which we just kept for ourselves :haha:

Perfection 101 wrote on Dec 7th, 2009 10:47pm

I apologise for my accusation, then. My reasoning is that no 18-year-old can possibly have enough time to be a massive fan of that many bands, so there must be some on that list that you're not really that into :p
I ask because I saw them on Saturday, and in that one evening they went from a band that I kinda liked but hadn't heard much from... To my new favourite power metal band :D

I kinda know where you're coming from on the job front; last year I spent about 9 months trying to find work (albeit not trying too hard) until summer, at which point I decided it'd be too late. Now I'm just praying I get a place on IBM's internship program next year, not least of all because it's called EPIC :haha:
I don't know what the employment situation's like near you, so the only advice I can offer is don't be picky (at all), and you may need to get creative to earn money.

Perfection 101 wrote on Dec 7th, 2009 9:44am

Ah, light sleepers FTL :( I consider myself pretty damn lucky that my dad's a massive snorer, it covers the sounds of late night entry, although they've banned people from stopping over since apparently we "take liberties" with the volume.
I know a few people in similar situations; no matter how intelligent the parents seem to be, they never realise that taking their kids to the middle of nowhere as well as away from their friends is just adding insult to injury. I heartily approve of your attempts to get back, and hope things go well for you in that respect *crosses fingers*
On a lighter note, I noticed you have Sonata Arctica in your list of every band ever - are you actually a fan, or do you just like a couple of songs?

Perfection 101 wrote on Dec 7th, 2009 1:27am

Hey, I said it was epically stupid! That's why I didn't do it until 6am :D
It's probably a good thing that they stop you doing stupid stuff, but can't you just make sure your parent folk don't find out... Or do they have Über-sensitive hearing and/or ankle tags surgically grafted to you?
I'm pretty sure I started a mini mosh pit to the Spice Girls in the street at one point, although I don't think it was raining. Come to think of it, the anal bead guy was there, too. He's such a bad influence on me :D
Do you have plans to move out soon(ish), or was that just a hypothetical statement?

PS Thanks for defining skanking, my first thought was something COMPLETELY different ;)

Perfection 101 wrote on Dec 6th, 2009 3:59pm

Aye, my school was on the border between school and asylum too. Mainly because of the high chav population, though :(

Unfortunately, my sleep pattern is usually so screwed up that I can't sleep until it's too late. Among the many stupid ideas I've had in the early hours, one of the worst (yet most amusing) was deciding to look through a sleeping girl's bag because I was convinced she had anal beads in there. Turned out she wasn't actually asleep. In my defence, though, someone else planted the idea of the beads in my mind, I only wanted to see if he was lying or not :D

Now I'm intrigued to see if any of your ideas can top that level of stupidity, but if spilling the beans would potentially cause legal action feel free to keep it to yourself :p

Completely sober, actually.
People have openly wondered about my sanity, though. I won't lie.

I appreciate the honesty :D I can't really say much else about it, since I used to be known as Psycho Pete (by one person), so as long as you've never been institutionalised I'll assume you're safe enough. And if I'm wrong, there's still the small matter of the distance between us to protect me :p

And now I think I should just go to bed before the non-sensical rambling starts, since this is a truly ridonkulous time to be awake

A bit ironic indeed. But I have to admit, I like the way you think

Well thanks :D Although I have to ask: were you drunk when you typed that? I only ask because it normally takes a fair bit of alcohol for my twisted sense of logic to become appealing. Normally, sober people just think I'm bloody weird, which is why my flatmates don't talk to me and I have to dress as a dolphin to get hugs :haha:

Then again, you proclaim yourself to be somewhat odd too, which often has the same effect as alcohol but without the hangover :p
