I recently had a rather large change of mind in terms of university. Let me explain.
Two years ago, I Started college (British college is no the same as university as in America) and was quite interested in taking music technology as a course. I decided against it seeing as I did not have a GCSE in music and was certain I would not get in. Long story short I discovered I was entirely wrong, and the following year I took AS level music technology. The course was a shambles half of the teachers were frankly unfit to teach, but at least on the practical side of things,I learnt a lot. The teacher (tom) taught both AS level students and A level students essentially the same thing, he often thought that my lower class was in fact the higher one and so I learnt quite a lot faster than was probably originally intended. Because of the fact that I had completed my two years at college I found myself unable to finish my full Music technology A level and therefore resigned myself to studying English and film at university.
Flash forward to last week, just over a month before the start of uni. A sudden realisation that, While I can do Film and English, I have no where near the level of interest to apply myself to them at a university level coupled with the discovery that the course had previously accepted people with no qualifications causes me to run to the phone and try to convince them to allow me to switch courses. With my best blagging voice prepared, and ready to beg my heart out if necessary, I picked up the phone and dialed the number.
"Excuse me, I was wondering if I could change course if that is at all possible?...."
"yes"
"oh ok, thankyou"
Unfortunately, its not all that simple. Initially the girl I was takling to made it sound like all I would really need is to do an interview which might have been possible over the phone. An email I recently recieved tells a different story.
I need to gather examples of my work to send to them. All I have really are a few midis and the sub par recordings that we got done at college. Hopefully It'll be enough to grant me an interview, I'm sure if I can't actually talk to them I'll get on the course, I'd just hate to be shot down before that stage...
