I picked up my first guitar in high school, to get through the monotony I think, it was early 90’s grunge era so of course I loved Nirvana. One day I heard my brother playing the intro to Heart-shaped Box and I was entranced. He said, look, you just put your fingers like this and then pick these strings. I couldn’t believe it was that easy! I think that’s all I played for like 6 months. Kurt Cobain, music genius yes, difficult guitar parts no. After a while I broadened my horizons and realized there was more music than grunge…. the 70’s had some decent music too, fell in love with Led Zeppelin. The 80’s were a complete waste though, except for GNR. Then I didn’t touch a guitar for four years. Got too busy with school. But eventually I came back to it, I think mostly to impress a girl. I even learned some Alison Krauss (yeah I know). I don’t think it impressed her much, but I haven’t stopped playing since. I’m still learning new tricks all the time. I’m terrible at remembering some really easy stuff, like chord names for example. My friend laughs at me when he tells me to play D7 and I just give him a blank stare. I play with him probably twice a week but neither of us can sing worth @#$% so it’d be really cool to find someone out there who can sing and song-write and then start making some real music.
I browse the MP3s out there all the time, usually I’ll send an invite if I like what I hear. Hope you do the same!
