Hi everyone, I'm Rob. I live in England and am studying Computer Science at the University of Kent in Canterbury, living away from home with my guitar
I started playing in January 2007. I'm slow to learn things, and I view guitar as a hobby, not a career, so it's less important for me to be writing my own stuff. I tried to join two bands, neither worked out.
I am a devout superstrat player and am psychically connected to my Ibanez S470, which is my main and favourite instrument. I can pull off a few skills, but generally I stick to playing other bands' stuff. I also play keyboard; my Yamaha board might be cheap, but it plays and sounds awesome. I want to become a multi-instrumentalist and take up bass as well.
My favourite band is Rush since I got into them in October 2008. Since then, I've amassed 15 full albums, many singles and plan more. I love prog, being a massive Muse fan and recently gotten into Marillion, but I also like some metal (DT, Metallica) and instrumental rock (Gilbert, Satch) through to electronic music, mainly Ultravox (who I saw live at the Hammersmith apollo on 24th April!) and lots of 80s bands. I think the 80s were the best time for music, period.
Recently, I got myself a Casio MG510 body and my project will be to restore the guitar to its former glory as a MIDI controller, as I love synth-rock. Soon as I get it to work, I'm covering Rush's Emotion Detector, my favourite song.
I'm also saving up to build myself a JCM800 clone to get the guitar tone I dream of - I love having unique stuff.
