Here's some inane information. I don't use a high G-string to double the regular G an octave higher, but I use a thicker B-string (a .16) from another set and tune it down to the same pitch as the G-string. I always thought the high G threw the sound of chords off by putting the highest note on the middle string so the tones being played didn't sound the same as on a 6 string.
