Yesterday I was watching TV and this group (singer + guitarist) came up
on stage to do their thing. The song they played sounded EXCACLY like
their radio version.
Performers playback a lot these days. I really don't understand why. Are they lazy ? are they scared to screw it up ?
Maybe they have no talent, but I don't know. The whole idea of being a musician is to perform music for other people. Right?
Now a days there's a lot of "musicians" out there (Paris Hilton, Ashlee Simpson...) and I feel that because of these "musicians" the real musicians don't really get the attention they should get.
But this reminded me of something.
A few years back I saw this documentary about the beginning of r'n'r in Croatia (in the 50s & 60s). And someone was saying something like: We walked into a restaurant and there was music playing (it was by a band they knew). At first we thought it was a record that was playing until we saw that the band was actually performing, they practiced so much they could reproduce the song exactly like it was on the record.
