Interests
Favorite bands :
Frank Black and the Catholics, Pixies, Los Straitjackets, Devil in a Woodpile, Lamb of God, Metallica, Pantera, Terror, Integrity, Ringworm, Black Dahlia Murder, Municipal Waste, Hatebreed, Parkway Drive, The Eagles, The Rolling Stones, ACDC, I could really go on for days but those seem to be the main ones I always go back to.
Favorite guitarists :
Dave Phillips, Rich Gilbert, Frank Black, Joey Santiago, Mark Morton, Willie Adler, James Hetfield, Kirk Hammet, Dimbag Darrel, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Freddie King, Eric Clapton, Buddy Guy, Jeff Beck, David Gilmour, Warren Haynes, Derek Trucks (my new fav) Neil Young, Andy Mckee, Chet Atkins, Eddie Angel, Brian Setzer, Brad Paisley, Joel Patterson, once again this list could probably circle the earth, but ill stop here at the ones that I can think of off the top of my head
Favorite bassists :
Pino is a beast. Robert Truillo, not because of Metallica, but for his ridiculousness in Infectious Grooves. Berry Oakley, and the Cherokee looking guy that plays in Neil's band in the Heart of Gold DVD. I think his name is Rick Rosas.
Favorite books :
Enjoyed Dan Brown's books for a while. And yes I admit it, I read all seven Harry Potter books and I enjoyed every fuckin page. Also think the Hunger Games trilogy is fantastic. I like to read historical books, especially American History and particularly pertaining to the Civil War. But I enjoy other history such as ancient Egyptian, Greek and Roman history. And on a non-historical note, I love ancient Egyptian, Greek and Roman myths and fables.
Favorite tv :
The Office, Lost, Sons of Anarchy, Roseanne, Pawn Stars, American Pickers, American Restoration, Man vs. Food, South Park, and I do love me some Paula Dean y'all!
Favorite movies :
The Big Lebowski, Fargo, Burn After Reading, Clerks, Clerks 2, Mall Rats, Dogma, Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back (not the biggest Chasing Amy fan) Saving Private Ryan, Black Hawk Down, Full Metal Jacket, Platoon, Gladiator, 300, Avatar, Inception, Reservoir Dogs, Pulp Fiction, Jackie Brown, Kill Bill Vol. 1+2, From Dusk Till Dawn, School of Rock, Hot Rod, Step Brothers, Anchorman, Killadelphia, Napoleon Dynomite, Waterboy, Happy Gilmore, Grandma's Boy. I love movies so this list might even get longer than the favorite bands and guitarists so ill stop here but i can't without mentioning the two movies currently tied for my favorite move. Forest Gump and Juno. That's right, Juno.
About mschup27
My name is Mike Schupska, I'm originally from a small town in Ohio nobody has ever heard of called Ashtabula. Couple years ago I moved down to Columbus, Ohio for school and I currently live there with my girlfriend. Did school for a while and failed, but picked up some good work along the way so I stayed. I love to smoke pot, drink good beer and play my guitar.
The music scene in Columbus doesn't do much for me, which is probably why I don't join bands or play out much like I used to. Personally I like Cleveland better because of their hardcore and metal scenes. My first love is metal, but hardcore has really grown on me in the last couple of years, especially 90's crossover bands like Integrity and Ringworm (both from Cleveland.) As far as playing music goes, I enjoy the blues the most. Love good country and bluegrass style playing too. Big fan of folky style acoustic playing ala neil young. If anyone in the Columbus area likes playing blues and folk stuff, please feel free to contact me for some jammin. Especially if you love Frank Black's stuff, particularly his work with the Catholics.
First time joining UG. Used to visit all the time for Metallica tabs lol. More recently i've been visiting because it seems to be one of the only reliable guitar tab websites left, and also because I enjoy the news articles and interviews with bands. I don't have Facebook and never had a MySpace because I think they are stupid. They are good for promoting yourself if you're in a band or an artist, but I think the social aspect of posting pictures and gloating about yourself is fucking dumb. I think it turns people into morons. But basically joining UG is my first foray into social whatevering on the internet.
Politically I would say I lean more to left. I am very pro-gay rights, pro tax breaks for working class blue collar people, anti-censorship, pro free healthcare, and most of all I am extremely for the legalization of marijuana. If anyone would like have a debate on marijuana legalization I would be happy to talk all day about how fucking ignorant it is that smoking pot is illegal.
Like I said before I am new to UG and would appreciate any help on how things are done here, rules etc. Try not to be too hard on my if I do something dumb lol. But feel free to message me, send me a friend request or email. I am generally a pretty nice dude, and am open-minded and accepting to people of all different shapes, sizes, colors, places, opinions and sexual orientation. One thing though is I am very opposed to religion of any kind. I think it is okay to be spiritual, because I feel very spiritual when I play and listen to music. But people that make money off of people's beliefs is just fucking wrong. I mean most of your organized religions make money off of instilling fear in people. An irrational fear, and they make things up that aren't true largely to fill their wallets. Not saying that organized religion hasn't done good things, but the amount of blood shed and fear mongering completely overshadows the good that they do imo. I mean really, killing people for not having the same beliefs? You would think a rational human being would see the flaw in that, but I've given up hope on the human race.
