My Old Demos

Current mood: nostalgic

So, I just found all my old demos that I recorded back when I was something of a musician (I had just gotten kicked out of the gigging band I had been in for years). I decided to load all the tracks on my computer and give them a listen. I tell ya what, it's gotten me mighty nostalgic for the days in which music used to be my life. I wish I still had it in me to love creating music that much. While the songs may not be that good, they're way more creative than anything I'm capable of writing these days. Also, I can feel the passion that I had for writing in those days. When I record anything now all I can hear is the total lack of feeling in it; like I'm just recording to get something down. It's too mechanical, but not in a good way. Back then I could write whole songs (minus the lyrics, I've never been good when it I comes to vocals), now, I struggle to come up with 5 songs for an EP. I hope to get back to that mind frame when music was fun; before my "work is life" days, before I started working more than anything else, before my Guitar Center days.... Here's to hoping...

1 year ago today...

I got fired from the Guitar Center in Boston. You wouldn't think it was a good thing, but, realistically, I'm much better off for it. I got all the good friends out of working there that I could, I'm making about as much per week at my current job (that's 15 minutes away from where I live, as opposed to the 2 hours it took to get to GC) as I did in two weeks at GC, and I'm happier, not so much in my job, but in my life than I was then. Also, I've gotten somewhat back into playing music (which I really hated when I worked there... Something about the customers and atmosphere that made me hate it....).

The best part is, within a month after firing me they went from having a positive shrink (the store actually had more money/merchandise than they should have) to having thousands of negative shrink! Proving that I was the most important member of the team!

So I raise a bottle and drink in the name of leaving GC Boston!

Pink Floyd

I'm finally gonna give them a chance. I've never really listened to them, no real reason either. I've never truly had a problem with any of the songs I've heard. In fact, I love High Hopes... So, here goes nothing....

My dream in life...

Current mood: contemplative

I've decided that ultimately what I want to do in my life (I'm getting up there in the years now so I gotta get working on it), is go back to school and get a degree. I'm thinking Psychology. It fits my personality. I will then parlay this into a moderately lucrative career. This will be a means to an end. What's my end you ask? Well, my dream in life is to own a ghost town. This is a little more feasible than it sounds, only most ghost towns actually still have residents (maybe about 5-20, but still, I don't want them there). So what I am thinking instead of that is to buy a parcel of land... Probably about 10 acres... With this land I shall build myself my own ghost town. But, rather than ghost town it'll probably be more like a street in a ghost town. Possibly old west style. There'll be a saloon, possibly a blacksmith shop, gun store.... Who knows? The dream is still in its infancy and I have years to plan it.... Definitely a saloon though.... Possibly have rooms for visitors in the saloon.... Oh yeah... I'm liking this idea...

Time to get to work!

Current mood: lethargic

I've got a recording session for a band of mine coming up at the end of May. The targeted amount of demos I want to have done for this is about ten to fifteen. Thinking I have about a month before I need to send them to the singer to write lyrics for half of them (I'll be writing the other half of the lyrics) I've been slacking lately. I've recorded just one thus far. Well, I get a text two days ago saying that the singer is coming up here (he lives in SC) next week. So that mean I have to finish about nine to fourteen more demos by Thursday. The trickiest part? I only have one night off of work in this time (I work the overnight, 11PM-7AM shift), so I only have mornings (I also have to fit in a three mile run and cool down period) and tonight to work on this. I don't think I'll be able to get it done.... So rather than getting started, I decided to come on UG and post a blog about my procrastination.... Damn....

UG FTW!!!!

I love

Current mood: jubilant

The Pogues. They're absolutely amazing. Even when Spider Stacy was their lead singer they still had great stuff.

Fuzz

After years of intense loathing for the fuzz effect I have caved in and purchased a fuzz pedal. It was between the Danelectro... something fuzz and the Behringer Super Fuzz 3-Mode. The Behringer was a little more expensive than the Danelectro, but three modes.... I mean, come on, what would you have done? Oh... The Danelectro? Yeah, I probably should have, but, three modes!

I'ma give it a try more than likely tomorrow or monday, since I just got it, but I have to go to work now.

Casino!

Myself and a couple of friends are planning on a casino trip in April. If anyone reading this has been to any casinos in the New England area, let me know what I should be expecting, what casinos are good, any decent hotels within proximity (close enough for one to drunkenly stumble to) or any such information that would be good to know.

Thank you.
