So, I haven't done this before, (obviously), and I really doubt anyone will read it, haha. But fuck it. If anyone cares, these'll be here. Mostly transcribed thoughts from my journal. So here we go.
Just a little background before I go any further. I've been playing guitar for year and a half ish, loved music longer than that, been kinda a loser even longer. Hahah. I was in one band before, we played one gig, a school battle of the bands. Went deciently. Disbanded soon after. That was over a year ago. Now I'm in the process of starting a band with some of my closest friends, my first real band, I like to think. We're already writing songs, though we had a change of drummers so we havent practiced with the new guy yet. But I digress.
Right now its me on guitar. Scott (scooter) on bass, he actually never played bass before this band, I'm teaching him to play, he's making progress quickly, though its all on my bass. We're working on getting him gear...money's kinda tight. Cameron (Cam) is our "singer," I say that because,, well its a punk band. So we use the word "sing" rather loosely. Between myself and him all of the lyrics are generated. And as for the drummer, I've never met him. But Cam found him, I trust his judgemnet. Though I dont know how good he is as a drummer. Should be interesting. I only added this part so that when I reference people you know who the hell I'm talking about.
As a band we havent really found ourselves yet, but between the three of us the main ideas for where to go fall between pop punk (Blink 182, NOT All Time Low and all that shit) from cam and scott. Hardcore/Classic Punk, from me and cam. And a little bit of post hardcore on my end. Still need to see where the drummer dude fits into this. Hopefully he'll mesh well. Lyrically, I'd say we lean more towards the classic/hardcore side of things. But our first song was very early blink esque. (its about hooking up with a tranny. I had nothing to do with writing those lyrics). But our other lyrically complete song is very, I dont know how to phrase it....I'll probably post it later for feedback.
We're having our first full practice this weekend, should be interesting. Hopefully we'll have recordings up in the next month or so. *fingers crossed* If anyone decides to take interest in this topic, I'll keep you posted. If not, I'll just use this as a place to rant about whatever topic strikes my fancy. I think that'll be all for me.
Sounds like my band when we first started it haha, except it was our singer that had never really sang or screamed before lol. Good luck, though, and if the drummer turns out to be a horrible addition just kick him out :
