natel0083 wrote on Jun 6th, 2008 8:58pmI love my VK.
The cleans are meh, they could be better, but they aren't terrible. They're very British voiced, almost AC30'ish, and it can get very high 'crystally and 'jangly' when you enable to bright switch.
The OD makes up for the cleans. It's got alot of grit, I would compare it a JCM800. Throw an OD in front of it and you can get some pretty high gain tones.
The reverb is very broad, and can be kinda annoying past 5 or 6.
Overall a great amp.
As for the FR, you could live with licensed. For example, the Jackson RR3 (and a few other jacksons) have LFR's and they are fantastic.
But if you really, really want an OFR, you could have one installed, but I wouldn't waste the hassle. quote |
z4twenny wrote on Jun 6th, 2008 1:21pmwell i recommend getting an external soundcard that can take a 1/4" guitar cable and assuming your amp has a 1/4" out just running from the out on the amp to the in on the soundcard. if you're going to recording into your computers plain soundcard (it's not going to sound good btw) and your amp has a headphone jack you can get a chord that has a 1/8" plug on both ends and plug your headphone out into your mic in on your soundcard. i don't recommend this though. quote |
z4twenny wrote on Jun 5th, 2008 11:31pmif your amp has a signal out (it probably does) you can try running a line from the out to the instrument in jack on your audio card, although this works with quite varied success depending on the amp and the card and the program combo being used. generally the sound will be too quiet because you're not boosting the signal you're just taking the raw sound that the head creates. some cards have built in preamps that boost the signal and sometimes it works just fine if you run the amp into the sound card, try it and see.
as for programs i don't know what to tell you about that, i personally use acid 6.0 and it's not a cheap program. but if you know where to look on the internet you can find whatever you need...... argh matey (hint hint, wink wink)
the suggestions i've given and cost examples are to get a good quality recording, if you go to radio shack and spend $10 on a mic, expect to get a $10 sound.
hope this helps! quote |
z4twenny wrote on Jun 5th, 2008 11:31pmas for recording the guitar it all depends on how you want to do it, you can get a preamp with some decent tubes for around $200 (preamp $100, tubes $100) and plug the preamp into the card, i use a digital 8 track recorder that i bought way back when and use that as a preamp. the other way is to mic everything, if you insist on doing this i recommend shure sm57's (as does anyone else who's ever recorded anything with one) point one at the amp speaker in the center of the cone, the other on the outside of the cone. you'll get a fuller sound this way. if you're recording acoustically you want one mic @ the soundhole and one pointed at the 12th fret. quote |
z4twenny wrote on Jun 5th, 2008 11:30pm : trust me i'm no recording genius, i know a little bit. in the future i have a friend who is an excellent mixer who will be doing all the stuff for my next cd.
well for recording you'll need a good sound card (most stock computer and gaming soundcards won't cut it, you'll need one for audio recording) i got mine for $150, its a steal because i've heard cards cost 2 and 3 times as much and not sounding as good. you want something with incredibly low latency (or no latency) i use a mobile pre usb and it just plugs in to a standard usb port and there ya go.

z4twenny wrote on Jun 4th, 2008 8:30pmwell the mixing on the song wasn't really great to begin with. it's really meant to be listened to on a full size speaker setup, headphones won't do it justice. in fact there is quite a bit of bass on it. quote |
tommyp484 wrote on May 10th, 2008 10:54ammy guitar is one of the older models. The new one's are cheaper, and have a shit floyd rose. But if your interested, i can sell it for less. I haven tplayed if in ages. quote |
bartdevil_metal wrote on Mar 1st, 2008 2:45pmHi there,
I never bought the VK footswitch because a friend of mine said his didn't last a month. Plus, I already had the FS-6 from my practise amp (Cube 30). It runs on batteries. Lasts ages too, so long as you unplug it when you're not using it. quote |
