An abandoned profile?

"An abandoned profile?" you ask?
Well, in short -- yes.
As one can see, I have pretty much stopped visiting UG on a regular basis, that's why I have six messages in my profile box, where as it use to be one every month or so... I'm no longer an active musician, that's why I've stopped visiting UG on a steady basis, and have left my profile un-updated for a while.
And that's how it's going to be, I am afraid.
But in the end it's nobody's lost, since I have about threeacquaintances Iactuallyconversed with on UG.
I'll still drop by, here and there, on the comments and such, though it has been a while since I saw any band I liked on the front page.
Finally, those whowishso, may inquire about my Steam profile, where I am much active, since I have it running while I'm at home andactuallyuse it for games and such.

A Light Dinner With...DRAGONS!

The thing about dragons,George,my boy

is: that they are pretty overused.

Now that I have given this damning statement, let me explain what's exactly on my mind. The other day, while I was enthralled with the newest addition to my Steam account, the sublime TESV:Skyrim(a great game, though they have gutted the RPG element),I suddenly realized that I am wholly fed up with with dragons.Remember this comes from a man who was raised on S&S and Fantasy, and not from some average geek around the bend.As I parted with the game for the night,I started to think more deeply of this - my newest pet peeve.Looking back at the year behind me I found that I still had some warm feelings about these mythological beast; and with a cold mind and a sad heart I found that the underlying cause is much the same with my Quendophobia*. This all comes back to the aforementioned 'George' - G.R.R.Martin,of course, the man who has single-handedly ruined dragons for me for all times.

How?

Well the entire series of A Song of Fire & Ice is based around a promise of dragons, and dragon riding. And though much of the dragonlore in ASOFAI is pretty much copied from Moorcock's Melnibonean cycle,Martin has indeed created a powerful intensive to sit down and read the whole series. Now if you're thinking that I'm apposed to ASOFAI just because I read the books before the HBO series, and that now I'm just angry because everybody else is now a semi-expert on the matter because of the HBO series.Well in that case,I can tell you that you are wrong, dead wrong.I love the series, though some parts of it have been unjustly toned down. It's the books I have problems with.
A Game Of Thrones(yes,it has a indefinite article before it) is a great opener.A Clash of Kings is my favorite book of the series,I have in fact went through the pain of profile setup to include it in my favorites list. But then comes A Storm of Swords, and some where towards the end of the first volume,a long heraldic course begins. Prince Aemon the Dragonknight this, and Aerrys the Young Dragon this....and so fort.
A Feast for Crows is the best named book of all times, but for all the wrong reasons, since much of the book are actually vestigial tails and chapters from the previous book.Sure there is some girl-on-girl action which somewhat livens things up,even though it is mostly 'thrown in' and semi-plastic.Hither came A Dance...With DRAGONS! Which, despite the title has more to do with the two Melnibone-esque human characters, than with the winged ones.
So what has all of this have with my repulsion with dragons.
Well ol' George has been riling us with promises of dragons. "Dragons,up a head," and "There will be Dragons." And all that over the years, plus the fact that nearly every other fantasy book/story/game/series has something to do with dragons, has made them pretty overused, and unimaginative in most instances.
Oh yeah,in The Hour of the Dragon, the

dragon gets his ass kicked by a Lion.

The Power To Believe

The Power To Believe by King Crimson is slowly becoming my favorite album by the aforementioned band.
A quote:
"
She carries me through days of apathy,
She watches over me,
She saved my life in a manner of speaking,
When she gave me back the power to believe,"

And that's just the opening to a incredibly dense, tripy, heavy, light, sad, happy, immense, miniscul e.............
It gave me the power...to believe...

A Symptom of The Era

Current mood: Concerned

http://www.ultimate-guitar.com/news/general_music_ news/behemoth_frontman_in_court_for_desecrating_bi ble.html

It an age of crises,it's been around since Columbus sailed for India and Martin Luther nailed his thesis on the cathedral door. And now that we have a massive social spiral downwards many are clinging on to their believes to protect themselves from the maelstroms of this time and age.And that all fine and dandy but when you savagely attack a man, committing character assassination on a man who is doing little more than voicing his opinion.I'm sorry but that's in every way a trip back to the 1400s and that's just not acceptable now.I am a modern cynic, and proud of it and to me the most disgusting thing in the world is legislating not only dogma but defending it in spite of the overwhelming tide of evidence to the contrary.I have nothing against America but like most people in Europe I had a secular and critical education and I laughed at people from the US who where so adamant that the Earth is 7000 years old.But not anymore, now that just scares me because that same mentality is now creeping back into Europe and my biggest nightmare is a return to the pre-Napoleonic social order. The hypocrisy goes one further step and Nergal is summoned before a court.A court in the 21st defending, thought indirectly, the interest of the Catholic Church? Enforcing a system of believes through the state is just that,a trow back in the middle ages.

A new string setup.

Well I have been thinking abut it for a while so I got up one day and did it.
I took the treble string from a 11. pack and the bass strings from a 13. pack.So now I can drop tune to A and pound the hell out of the top strings with going out of tune and then have a super bendy bottom string to play leads on.
My new gauge:
11. 14. 18. 36. 46. 59.
I'm gonna do the same on the rhoads but with 09.s and 10.s.

I AM FREEMAN!

Current mood: ecstatic

I AM GORDON FREEMAN,YEAH.Just started playing Half Life 2 again, and I have to say that I love it.In fact I've been playing Half Life for half of my life and it's yet to become old.Epic story,a bit outdated gameplay but still epic. And after I'm done with HL2 I'm going back and playing HL1 again, watching that "Freeman's Mind" mechanima on You Tube has reminded me just how much that game kicks ass.
And if you never played it,than I can only feel very, very, very sorry for you.
Kudos if you think that HL kicks ass!
