would a plexiglass bass be good for metal? and do you know where a 5 string one would be?

Yeah, I'll get into smashing instruments. I'll play my Jazz and smash a T-Bird.

But it'll only take one hit or two. Y'know, those Gibson necks just love to snap off.

Entire sub genre? Isn't that like saying Little Bighorn or Jumbo Shrimp? And remember what I said about exceptions never trumping trends? U2 has made it. Van Halen has made it. CoC hasn't made it. My guess is that some people found potential in a genre where the players and listeners had something in common, and there you go. If you require the drug to listen to it, it's the same deal.

But I mean really... using psychadelic rock and stoner rock in the same sentence? Christ, that's like talking about the hotness of Kate Beckinsale and Maggie Gylenhaal.

You think pot had influence on psychadelic rock!? The musicians did acid, and the listeners did pot. And that's all they ever did. Sure, the acid takers may have done pot, but it has absolutely no relevance to the inception of the genre.

And stoner rock (besides who gives a fuck?) says more about the target audience than anything, but at the very least, it's by stoners, for stoners. What's so ambitious about stoner rock, anyway?

It's a custom through and through - just wanted to make it sound fancy. And by no means is it my custom axe.

Of course it is SMV! Three bass heroes gracing the cover of bass player, think they listened to your letter?

100%. Actually, Stanley, Victor, and Marcus came to my house, in tears, and personally apologized for that awful issue. I showed Stanley Clarke some proper fretting technique, and forgave them.

thefitz wrote on Jul 29th, 2008 5:02am

What, SMV? It's funny - they're playing the Sound Academy (the same stage I played last February) on August 20th... my good metal lead guitarist friend's birthday. I wonder what the chances are that he'd want to go? :p:

And if it's not SMV, I haven't got it yet!

Oh, and as a Toronto fan, I'm not allowed to talk about Ottawa or Montreal. Fuck them.

Fitzy, I need your opinion. I want to get into hockey, and like I do for all sports, I need to choose a favorite team.

Posssibilities are:
-Nashville Predators
-San Jose Sharks
-Vancouver Canucks
-Teams from south-eastern Canada

Thoughts/opinions?

Even though I'm as hockey crazy as the next Canadian, I'm very, very much a home-team guy. That said, Vancouver is most likely going to get Toronto's captain, Mats Sundin, so there's a bit of a regime change going on - a bit of a risk. Toronto's TOTALLY rebuilding, and is a huge risk - but is a potential goldmine. Toronto has San Jose's old coach, so San Jose's going through a regime change, too. Nashville? No idea. I don't pay attention to western conference anything.

The utopia B-100 is an ok pedal, although it is not my type. It mainly deals with some overdrive, chorus, and phaser/tremolo effects. It is a very deep and expansive system, which is the main reason I am selling it. I find that some times it is too complicated for me, and very overwhelming.
Thanks, I might have to make another choice.

Michael Tobias put it best - it's like the difference between a Gibson Les Paul and an ES-335. Check the interview during one of the BP LIVE! segments on bassplayer.tv.

Hey I'm thinking of buying a Rocktron Utopia B100. How are they?

I will be blunt, you look stoned in this picture.
Unusually I wasn't - if I remember correctly this was taken on my last missus' birthday and I wasn't allowed to smoke

I do not recall ever mentioning my featuring in the mag. Maybe something along the lines of if Esperanze has a cover story, I am going to have one, too.

Anyway, have you ever seen a Telecaster Thinline? That's what the body is, except bigger and longer for bass. It's semi-hollow, and it came with the soundhole. Remember, upright inspired electric bass, not "let's take a Jaco-like fretless and do what we can to sound NOTHING like him".

quote

thefitz wrote on Jun 6th, 2008 7:34pm

Haha, nice one.

However, this isn't really considered a semi-acoustic bass. It's not meant to be played unplugged, and will sound little different than a solidbody unplugged electric. ABGs suck because their acoustic volume (i.e. intended use) is typically nonexistant. Their plugged in, piezo tone is always harsh and sounds the same across any bass. The bass has an electric, magnetic pickup, like a normal bass. It's acoustic inspired; not semi-acoustic. Somewhat like the Godin A4 fretless, except with a soundhole and passive magnetic pickups.

GWWWAAAAHH? I've never heard that! I wrote a letter to the mag which I wrote in a blog, and Jauqo III-X sent a letter in that was printed, but... where did you hear this?
