...is awesome. It truly is. Today, i had both a tone enlightenment, and a playing enlightenment. Eric johnson is the shit man. If you havent yet, listen to his song Manhattan. Hands down top 5 songs EVER. The tone on that song is NUTS man, it really is. I figured out some new ways to "think outside of the boxes" as far as the major scale by listening to cliffs of dover. Just find patterns, and dont be afraid to use open chords. I also have become enlightened with using thumbs for strumming a chord you want to hold out a little. My tone got a nice improvement today. Get a chorus pedal for sure. Adding a subtle chorus on top of your clean tone on anything that involves more than two notes sounds absolutely godly. Tons more headroom on tone, and just more glassyness (if you're into that) Scoop the mids, depending on how glassy you want them to be. And tone knobs...Totally underrated when it comes to doctoring clean tones. Additionally: I say stay away from basswood unless its pretty much a shred exclusively guitar. I dont think ill get another non alder/ash/mahog guitar ever again. Same with floyds, generally a pain in the ass if you ever want to change tuning. Also, listen to some funk, like deodato, good stuff. Mix up your playing a little, but more importantly... GET A STRAT! These guys are weird, but good example of awesome funk http://youtube.com/watch?v=Er_WxiAaE5s The skinny man himself http://youtube.com/watch?v=FL8aeeSTthQ
yes Chorus makes everything better lol on alot of my songs I use it to fatten up the lead and rythm dirty guitars to.
also you just figured out that Eric Johnson is that good.
I hate that people are listening to him now cause of GH3 it's dumb.
EJ is the fuckin' man. And yes, Manhattan has the godliest tone ever.
I need a chorus and delay for it though... I think? I don't even know what to use for it. I keep trying to play along to it, but the only echoey sound I have right now is my spring 'verb on my Blue. I just max it to 10. Whatever. I get lost following along.
