...is awesome. It truly is. Today, i had both a tone enlightenment, and a playing enlightenment. Eric johnson is the shit man. If you havent yet, listen to his song Manhattan. Hands down top 5 songs EVER. The tone on that song is NUTS man, it really is. I figured out some new ways to "think outside of the boxes" as far as the major scale by listening to cliffs of dover. Just find patterns, and dont be afraid to use open chords. I also have become enlightened with using thumbs for strumming a chord you want to hold out a little. My tone got a nice improvement today. Get a chorus pedal for sure. Adding a subtle chorus on top of your clean tone on anything that involves more than two notes sounds absolutely godly. Tons more headroom on tone, and just more glassyness (if you're into that) Scoop the mids, depending on how glassy you want them to be. And tone knobs...Totally underrated when it comes to doctoring clean tones. Additionally: I say stay away from basswood unless its pretty much a shred exclusively guitar. I dont think ill get another non alder/ash/mahog guitar ever again. Same with floyds, generally a pain in the ass if you ever want to change tuning. Also, listen to some funk, like deodato, good stuff. Mix up your playing a little, but more importantly... GET A STRAT! These guys are weird, but good example of awesome funk http://youtube.com/watch?v=Er_WxiAaE5s The skinny man himself http://youtube.com/watch?v=FL8aeeSTthQ
Hello, the few people that actually read these. It has dawned on me. I first need to find a summer job to progress my music abilities more. I need more monies for a couple things. First off, a car, 2nd off, an attenuator, and 3rd for just money in general. Maybe i'll have enough for a laptop, and then i can actually record stuff descently. Right now my computer is a 1.6 ghz, which believe it or not cant support the $300 presonus firebox thing. Shoot me now. Also on the list is a semi hollow, and/or a strat with vintage trem or hardtail. I dont think ill ever buy another floating bridge guitar ever again. Balancing bridges =\= fun.
So as i've been considering my crap I've come to a simple decision for what i want before the end of the year first and foremost, a new job for the summer where i can get a lot of hours, and pays descent. Also, probably some car of some sort between 500-1000. Hopefully. Gear: New guitar! hopefully 2 of them, i want something in like HSS, and then probably a HH hardtail of some sort. I was thinking about the slash epi because its priced damn good for what you get, of course assuming the wood quality won't be trash (it just might be) Although the HSS would have to be with a FR. I'm very set on that. Best case scenario is that i can afford a carvin, or find a used one close to me. that'd be pimpin. Also as far as pedals: A delay. OD, probably a maxon OD-9 or 808, or that new MXR boost/od pedal looks interesting. Dyna comp? Digitech whammy for some harmonizing and octaving. Verbzilla. MXR Phaser MXR 10 band EQ I suppose by this time i'll need a noise suppressor too. By this time i suppose i'd be quite satisfied. Maybe if i get lucky on some cash money somehow i'll be able to buy a botique type amp, like a boogie or a splawn or something. Without the botique amp im looking at about.... 3 grand
*Shoots self*
Simplified: HSS with floyd OD delay verbzilla car Now only like 2 grand
Woot! my day has finally come. My amp is arriving tomorrow. (traynor ycv 50 blue) It arrived at saint paul at 7 o'clock tonight. That means tomorrow is the day. God im pumped. I've never wished a day went so fast in my life. I'm so glad that its finally going to come to an end though, finally i have a tube amp....for good. It really sucks playing on crappy solid state amps. Hopefully its as good as everyone says, being that i took the leap of faith with it, but i trust the dudes in the traynor syndicate.
Now as far as guitar goes.....
I feel guilty that i'll be playing a squier strat into it, until i find the guitar i want....the pickups on it are pretty horrible. Perhaps i'll get one of those new jackson dk2's with the maple necks, mind you the HSS one. I need a 24 fretted floyd rose guitar with HSS config, if anyone can help me with that shit, i have a thread for it already though.
