How is everyone? Just thought I would get everyones opinion on their views between being self-taught at guitar vs. getting lessons. I am self-taught. I first picked up a guitar when I was like 15. My buddy had a real winner of an acoustic and he played it like shit. I told him, "You suck man, I bet I can play that thing better than you." He took my challenge. I told him to find me a song to play and he came up with the theme song to Top Gun. Not a terribly complicated song but I still have never played. I listened to the song a couple of times and started plucking it out. After about 20 minutes, I had a pretty good rough play of the entire song. Needless to say my buddy was a little pissed off. From there I just played more and more and started playing my own stuff.
I always wanted to take lessons because the there are just some things with a guitar that are harder to teach yourself. By the time I was able to afford any real lessons, I had already been playing for 10 years, so it never happened. I feel that there are quite a few hurdles that I can never overcome as a self-taught guitarist. I've seen a lot of self taught guitarists on here and was just wondering if you all have the same feelings on the issue. I am at the point of the old saying, "you can't teach an old dog new tricks". I will keep on keepin on though and contunue to play and fine tune my own sound and music.
I'm here to let everyone know (if you don't already) that Rock Band is quite possibly the best game ever created (next to Final Fantasy VII of coourse).
Don't get me wrong, I give all the props in the world to Guitar Hero for kicking off the phenom but Rock Band jumped way ahead when they released. I have played the PS3, PS2, and 360 versions(not Wii). PS3 is the clear winner. Just stellar. XBOX wasn't wireless (guitar) and the playability was lacking. Even on a standard TV the instruments just didn't respond like on the PS3. The PS2 version is just to limited. You cant do most of the things on PS2 as you can on PS3. Rock Band 2 is already out on 360 and will be out Oct 19th on PS3. Can't wait. Guitar Hero is also releasing a Rock Band like game called World Tour. It will have all the instruments that Rock band has. The other bonus is that PS3 is trying to make all of the instruments for both games interchangable between the games. I'm sure I will pick up both. The Guitar Hero release date is around the same time as Rock Band 2.
This is just a simple opinion based blog on why I think the PS3 is better than 360. First of all, Xbox can't play HD (Blu-Ray) movies without a hardware add on. Second, the controllers are too big. You need like a harness that goes around your neck to the controller just to hold it up and not go into muscle failure during play time. Third, the names themselves. I hate to make Bill Gates even more rich than he already is. I would rather give my hard earned money to the platform that made the greatest game ever, Final Fantasy VII. (I did said EVER) A lot of shooter players will bring up Halo, but if thats all it's got, your about ten years to late. There are other pros but I will save them for the argumrents that I am sure are to ensue.
