Scales

Yo,

A Diatonic is the very basic scale, really just the sequencing based on tones & semitones.  For example.  Key C:  C-D-E-F-G-A-B-C...the sequence will be  W-W-h-W-W-W-h  ...W=Whole step or tone and h+half Step or semi-tone.
Example: Do-Re-Mi-Fa-So-La-Ti-Do

Whole step = 2 frets distance (1 Tone)
hALF step = 1 fret distance (1/2 tone)

Technically speaking, diatonic scales are obtained from a chain of six successive fifths in some version of meantone temperament, and resulting in two tetrachords separated by intervals of a whole tone
