Not too up on what it takes to make a great bass player, but I think Flea is pretty awesome, and I like Cliff Burton quite a bit too, and Lemmy's the shit.

Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, I laugh out loud at the same parts even though I've read it about 100 times.

Just started playing about 9 months ago, after failed attempts over the years of picking it up for a couple of months, took lessons here and there, but finally bought a guitar and got determined. Went to LA last year, saw the Beastie Boys play alot fo their old punk shit, thought, "I can do that". Went to GUitar Centre in Hollywood the next morning, and bought a black Epiphone Les Paul Standard. Going through a divorce right now, this guitar is a god send. Into old skool punk rawk, some metal, basically 3 chord noise, mostly. Only regret, is that I didn't start playing until I was 36 yrs old. Just started jamming with an old friend who plays drums, basically just a bunch of shit we make up together.......it's awesome, I love it.
