Well . . . I've been playing guitar for around 6 years now, I started out wanting to be the guitar virtuoso that could play like Eddie Van Halen, Neal Schon, Steve Vai, all those amazing technical players.
I don't know if this makes sense - but since then I've aspired to be more of a "musician" than a purely a "guitarist." I've opened up my musical taste so I don't only like bands that have "cool guitar work." If you know what I mean.
I find pleasure in listening to a lot more things now, and I like anything from guitar-based classic rock to sonically interesting music like U2, and all their "follower" bands like Coldplay, Killers, Kings of Leon, and so on. Now I know there's a lot of you here that live and die by the guitar bands, and that's cool - this is a guitar site.
But I'm more into being a musician now, writing unique music that isn't automatically based around guitar even. But don't worry, guitar is still the bomb, and how I go about being a musician, even though I've branched out to keyboards and synths and studio engineering.
