I played the Mexican Hat Dance in a bass solo in my band's song, Chopped Liver. Naturally, I presume I did it before you did, and I also wrote the Mexican Hat Dance. In fact, I designed Mexican Hats.

Ahh it's such a shame. I'd love to see Costello when he's on form and with a competent bassist.

I'd love to see the Police, he does have a very strange style though, I've seen it in videos before and it's certainly interesting!

I saw Costello on the King of America and Spike tours and he was sooo good. Esp. the Spike tour. However, when he was touring to support Mighty Like a Rose, it was less than ideal and this last go round was just so disappointing. When he's good, he's wonderful though!

Costello's voice was a bit strained. He had throat issues and it showed. They opened for the Police. The sounded good on "Alison" and that was about it. The rest of the show seemed like a contractual obligation affair. He only played an hour--no encore.

What made it worse was that the Police were absolutely brilliant. I'm not a huge Sting fan but they were really, really great and tight. Though Sting has the oddest bass playing style I've ever seen; he switches between thumb and finger style constantly.

I saw Elvis Costello last night; I have to say that Davey Farragher gave the worst performance I have ever seen from a bass player. He slaughtered Bruce Thomas' classic lines (root note bashing abounded) and was never locked with Pete Thomas during the entire performance. It was a train wreck from beginning to end.

Do you have any dates during the summer which you definitely can't do a #bass meet on?

iplaydabass wrote on May 7th, 2008 3:32am

Never mind. Club Foot is a bit of a distinctive bassline, it has to be said :p

Hello, stranger: do I PM or just comment to just say what bassline number 11 is?

Because I know it, if you hadn't guessed :p
