someone one brought up the topic to me "why do Aethiest celibrate Christmas?"
well... That is an incredibly good question. Why do non-Christians celebrate Christmas? Well, I believe it's because now a days it doesn’t have anything to do with God at all, for most people. All Christmas is to non-Christians (even some Christians sadly) is just a time where friends and family get together and exchange expensive gifts. Some people lie to their kids about some creepy guy that breaks and enters into their house, eats the kids cookies, then he might leave the kids some gifts if they have been good all year. Now, to me, that is not Christmas.
Christmas started as a celebration of Christ's birth. It came from the Catholic church calling it Christ's mass. It was a mass devoted to Christ’s birth (the gift part and the trees and all of that mumbo-jumbo came later when the non-Christians started celebrating their version of Christmas). It did not start as a time where you worshiped a false god-like character. A man that sees everything you do therefore he is omniscience, he would be omnipresent to give all them gifts in one night, and omnipotent if he could make all the gifts he gave to everyone in the world. No, those are attributes only given to God? How did we get to giving all of those Godly attributes to a factious character and convincing our kids he is real?
Anyways that’s kind of off topic, so how do I feel about non-religious people celebrating a Christian holiday? Well truthfully, it doesn't bother me all that much, because they really don't celebrate Christmas in my eyes. Am I offended about that? No, just like I'm not offended by someone saying "mom and mom" or "dad and dad" or "mom and dad" for that matter, because people get offended way too easy now a days. Americans need to toughen up, stop being such crybabies and getting "offended" so easily at every little thing there is.
Just as a side note have you ever noticed when someone says something like, "take down the Ten Commandments because it MIGHT offend someone" even though no one was actually offended? it was just "because it MIGHT offend someone." I don't get why people try to be politically correct all the time, what a boring life that must be. Personally it’s ridiculous to me how people get "offended" so easily.
Wise, wise, wise, wise words.
Did you know that Santa Claus was actually started by Coca-Cola? They created the image of the man in the red suit and white beard and started putting him down chimneys. So you have them to blame.
A little off topic, but Coca-Cola also changed the color of Coke to orange and gave it a new name and then became the official drink sponsors of the Nazis during WWII...
