the "power chord" argument

Current mood: aggravated

I have many musicians that are close friends, from bluegrass and blues to death metal. The main argument between the guitarists is people ragging on punk guitarist for their "overuse" of power chords. Kids, if you want to play "All the small things" until your ears bleed, do it! But realize that doesn't make you "respectable" in the guitar world, learn your scales and music theory (all of those face melting solos are nothing more than alter blues and pentatonic scales). And if a metal head tries to rag on you for using power chords, remember that when they tune to Drop D and play the usual chords, they're playing power chords, it's still the same notes. But everyone needs to respect other guitarists abilities and INABILITIES, just because you can play eruption on a mandolin doesn't mean everyone can, and they know how to do things you may not. Remember, music is all feeling, and to each his own.

Thank you! finally someone understands that in the end, it's still music in someone's eyes.
