My influences for solos range from a number of people. My favorite guitarist is John Petrucci from Dream Theater. He can shred like a mofo, but he doesn't overdo it. He has great emotion and feel as well.
Some other guitarists high on my list are Randy Rhoads (Ozzy Osbourne), Marty Friedman (ex-Megadeth), Guthrie Govan, Joe Satriani, Alex Lifeson (Rush), Steve Vai, Steve Howe (Yes), Mike Romeo (Symphony X), Dimebag Darrell Abbott(Pantera), and Frank Zappa, among others.
If you haven't already, you should check these guys out. They all have unique styles and great melodic ideas. Hope I helped!
