Guitar Pandemic

Current mood: aggravated

I would like to begin with hello, in this article I’m going to go into something that I think is very important to guitar players as a whole.
I have played guitar for over two years now and I have one thing to say to new players- if your playing because you want get to good and learn about scales and fundamentals, than good. But if you’re starting cause your friend did than quit, right now. There are enough people playing guitar as it is, the last thing we need is you to come in.
This is crazy; I started on my own, with a crappy child size guitar about 3 years ago. Then two years ago I got serious with it. I practiced as much as I could for the summer before school started and got fairly good, I was beginning to understand that basics of scales and such. But then that winter, all my friends started to do it. my friend from around the corner, my friend who lives in town, my brother. Then my brother's friends. This is getting Ridiculous.
It's getting this way because all of these players; with the exception of my friend around the corner suck. They plain suck, and it's makes me embarrassed so say that I even play guitar sometimes. Look if you suck, and are a stupid nerdy kid then please quit, we have enough already, believe me I know plenty of nerdy kids who think that they can just play. Yes it’s an easy instrument to make noise on but so is piano and neither one of them are easy to play.
However if your willing to put in the effort to get good, and know that only after you get good you might get into a band then yes, have at it. Learn what you can and go out into the world. What I’m asking is simple, if you’ve come to pretend like you can play, don’t, everyone else will hate you. If you’ve come to learn and then play, please feel free to do it
I'll leave you with this; I'm not the best, I’ll admit that. But I’m playing because I love music, and the way it's played. So if you’re playing just because you want to sound like your favorite band or because you can play one song part, I encourage you to expand your horizon or quit. It's that simple because it's a tough world out there.
