I picked up a Fender Standard Jazz Bass(MIM)the other day. Brown sunburst, brown tort pg, and a maple fretboard. I put a set of Ernie Ball Flats(2806)and it sounds nice. I still use the MIA Precision but I do reach for the new jazz a lot.
I'm going to play music Sunday so Friday I went to Guitar Center to pick up some new strings. I walked around a bit, lookin at P.A. systems and what not. I checked out some amps and looked at the basses, just killing time. I thought I'd play some of the new Fender American Standard Precisions and about 1 1/2 to 2 hours later I walked out with a new black and maple. Well at least I got my new strings.
Well I just got use to using rounds on my jazz basses(Standard&Geddy). A while ago I picked up the 2000 Precision and after reading some of the forums I found out a lot of people use flats on the Precision. Being curious I had to try them out on it. I picked up some Ernie Ball Flats 2806's and guess what? They're right...it sounds GREAT(too bad I don't). I use EB Hybrids on the Jazz Basses. That's it....boring I know.
I got a new bass a couple days ago. It's new to me but it's a used one. A Fender Precision Bass(MIA), year 2000. It was one of those "Ebay" chances and it worked out good. I like to play before I pay but in this case I didn't get to. It looks like it was hardly used. I got a complete "set up" done on it today and WOW. SUSTAIN!!! I have a Geddy Jazz that I usually play and I like it a lot but with this Precision I think the Geddy is going to get a little more rest.
Tuesday morning at 3:13, September 30, my Dad passed away. He was 80 years old. He liked coming to the house and listen to music and listen to me play. I played football, baseball, basketball, and track in high school and football in college and he never missed a game. Maybe this isn't the place for this type of news but I had to write it somewhere. It was on my mind at this time so I wrote it. I'll miss the man..............
Man, I just watched Boz Skaggs on the HDN on television. It was some good music! It's times like this that I'm glad I have a surround-sound system. I didn't know he had so many hits. I think I'm going to get his Greatest Hits CD. There are some great blues guitar on the show. Try to catch it sometime.
High temperature, 99, high humidity...what a nice day to work. I got to replace a 150 pound motor on a compressor for a 345 kva air breaker system today. In the middle of a substation yard, no shade, and on white rock...gotta love it! Does anyone ever really hit the lottery???
We had a nice jam session yesterday(Sunday). 4 guitars and my bass showed up. Some of the songs... pride and joy...stevie raye vaughan cowgirl in the sand...neil young how long...eagles tequila sunrise...eagles lying eyes...eagles ballad of curtis loew...lynyrd skynyrd the breeze...lynyrd skynyrd does fort worth ever cross your mind...keith whitley run through the jungle...CCR, fogerty magnolia...poco rose of cimmaron...poco all ready gone...eagles long cool women...... and quite a few more. It was a real good time.
Whoops, I got in trouble today on here. One too many SX threads. It was only the second thread. It's hard telling how many "what amp should I buy" and "what strings should I use", "Behringer sucks" threads are on here...a whole lot. Oh well, f*ck 'em if they can't take a joke. I better be a good boy...gotta go for now.
Here's a Skynyrd song I like a lot. Simple Man, Freebird, Gimme 3 Steps are the songs you usually hear. The Ballad of Curtis Loew has some good guitar parts and the lyrics are good. I do add a little on the bass parts but that's just me screwing around. Hopefully this link opens. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B38gnPiWUfo
