a scale run that ends in a blur a progression going backwards a pinch harmonic won't squeal but a mere squeak and spill man it sucks to be uninspired pull offs the rut and i'm stuck stacked and bucked to the nut this is what i get from frustration no riddles from my emotion god i hate it when i'm sick of it all damn uninspired!
---nothing brings me down more than when i'm out phased not in my zone and fuck i just can't play anything on my guitar. i rarely play cover songs, sometimes i just play along some satriani tunes but i don't play his part, i can't, i just try to mess it up pretending i'm his 2nd guitarist, lol!...but i'm more into improvising my own, i just hit the freaking neck and go for it...............but it just sucks when all i can do is hit the low C and rattle up my amp, like a diesel engine knocking off, immensely powerless chords, undefined hiss and obscure melodies....WTF!!!
They say that a great riff comes from the tunes in our heads and that's exactly the case with my riffs..not that they're great but they are amazing (love your own). How do I make riffs? Simply complicated. The simple part is just playing what I can play. Sit in one corner, setup everything, bang on! A riff would just come out from whatever I can hit on my fretboard. If I feel doing a sustained power chord then drop some squeals then shred then mute then do a walking bass then make some noise, I will do just that. When I feel wasted already and the song seems to be dragging to nowhere then I'll stop. The complicated part is that I cannot go back and do the same riff! It just spawn something else! That's why some of my riffs seem to be just like the other. Even if I have recorded the riff and even with a video, I just cannot do the exact same riff. The good thing is, well, I am happy with what I have made.
First song I played was "Kapaligiran" It was my old pal Pide who taught me how to play that song, he also had an acoustic guitar that I use to borrow all the time since I was just starting to learn chords so I was always excited. Pide and Roy would always lend me their guitars even for a whole week. I remember spending sleepless nights outside the house against my mom's will just to learn how to play better each day. Consequently, that was also my ticket to drinking and smoking, LOL.
I heard my friend Roy playing Patience by GnR. That's how I first encountered the guitar sound. I was so amazed by how it sounded so I went out of our house and sneaked thru the gates to get to Roy's house. He was not yet my friend then, so I was not even sure if I can listen in. I was there standing behind a wall puffing a cigarette listening to the intro of that song played on an acoustic by my friend.
