New amp...Peavey Windsor Combo

Current mood: busy

I got a new Peavey Windsor amp about two weeks ago and I have not had time to even plug the damn thing in yet.  Pisses me off.  One of these days I will play on it.  I swear.

Sold my Ibanez

Current mood: drained

Well, I sold my Ibanez ART300.  It just wasn't...doing it for me.  That leaves me with three guitars.  Now I'm looking to get another amp.  All tube--maybe 20-30 watts.  I've been looking at the Peavey Windsor Studios.  Hmmm.

New guitar & other stuff

Current mood: mellow

I got my Agile AL3100 today!  No pics yet, but it's nice.  I'm gonna put my Ibanez on Ebay in a few days.  I rebuilt my Danelectro Cadet 123 tube amp and ended up selling it on Ebay (that's how I bought my Agile).  Now I need another small tube amp.  Probably going to get the Fender Champ 600, Epiphone Valve Jr. combo, or the Peavey Valve King (the small one).  Not sure which one yet.

Got 1, got rid of 1

Current mood: sleepy

I got rid of my Squier strat hybrid that I've been working on for quite some time.  I got it at a pawn shop for super cheap.  I ended up putting a new loaded pickguard in it and a new neck.  The Squier neck was crap (and so were the pickups).  Anyway, I ended up selling it on Ebay.  It didn't go for as much as I had hoped, but that's OK.  It really was a nice guitar after I did all the work on it.  I've come to the conclusion that single coils are not for me.  I really like something with a bit more crunch...

So I recently got a new Ibanez ART300 in the Brown Caiman finish.  Very nice guitar for $400.  I went to Guitar Center looking for a new guitar.  I wasn't sure what I was looking for, but I wasn't looking for a "Les Paul copy".  When I saw it and played it, WOW!  So now I'm back to three guitars.  I haven't updated my pics yet, but I will soon.

Next in line is a new tube amp!!!

EMG 18V mod

Current mood: impressed

After reading about the EMG 18v mod in a thread here on UG, I decided I'd give it a try in my Dean 79 Series V.  I went to Radio Shack and bought a pack of 9-volt battery clips.  They only sell them in packs of five, but I only needed three of them.  I got home and made a removable harness out of the three clips (in case I didn't like the mod...it would be a cinch to go back to the 9v).  After about five minutes of soldering, I was done!  I love the sound.  There seems to be more mid-range and more sustain with less compression.  If you have active EMG's, I recommend this mod.  It's a quick, easy, and cheap modificaiton that actually works.  Click here and scroll down to "Figure 3" near the bottom of the page.  That's how I did my mod on my V.

Squier re-do

Current mood: indifferent

Well, I recently bought a Squier strat at a pawn shop for $20.  See my pics.  It needed quite a bit of work tho.  I replaced the pickups and the pickguard with a loaded set I got from guitarfetish.  I also replaced the neck.  The neck that came on it was straight, but the frets were VERY worn down.  I spent about three hours getting the neck just right.  I ended up having to put in a shim on the low E side to get it the way that I like it.  I also blocked the bridge with a piece of scrap wood I had laying around.  After restringing it with Ernie Ball 10-52's, it's not really that bad.  This is the first "single coil" guitar that I've ever owned, and I'm not sure that it's for me.  I guess I'm just used to humbuckers or something.  I'm probalby gonna keep the Squire, but I'm not sure yet.  Yeah...so that's it.  I'll probably put up some new pics of it later.
