Long Time No Speak

Current mood: chipper

Howdy all, how's life in the UG hoard?

Anyway, for the few of you that follow me on my little page, you may've noticed a distinct lack of activity around these parts. This is for 2 reasons.

-work
-drink

That's basically been my summer. Kinda depressing when I put it like that but hell, for some people that's their normal life! Any of my time not drinking or working has mainly consisted of hunting for a flat (still no luck ) and occasionally noodling on the guitar to keep myself from being bored.

Been talking to a few guys about getting a band together which is sounding positive at time of writing which is cool because it's been a while since I played with other musicians seriously. No better musical experience than playing with real people in the same space

Been doing bits and pieces of songwriting and zero recording which is good and bad. Trying to go back to basics with simple melodies and stuff instead of trying to do something different for reasons unbeknownst to everyone including me...no doubt something to do with getting the foundations right before building on top of it.

Anyway, that's about it. That's y'all up to date with where I'm at so hopefully you've enjoyed your summer and those (like myself) who still have a bit left, make the most of it!

Adios, /Scott.

P.S. Just noticed...did I just say unbeknownst?! I impress myself sometimes

There's a Reason They Call Him The Boss

Current mood: chipper

Live, Hampden Park, Glasgow 14/7/09 - 3 hour eargasm

Awesome show, even better than I was expecting (and I had high expectations). Only bad things about the gig were that I wasn't on the pitch, I was up in the stands (for mum's welfare more than anything else) and that the only beer was Tennents...this upset me a little. But still absolutely spectacular show. Love to see him again.

Taken the day off today to do some mixing of stuff (using Audacity, the results were meh...might have to re-record stuff on Cubase).

But yeah, I'm happy. Hope y'all are too :)

The Cat Empire - Glasgow

Current mood: happy

Went to the gig with a mate last night. I've been into the band for about half a year and have obsessed over them for ages so when I heard they were coming I got a semi :haha:

Anyway, support from a Balkan folk group (Paprika Balkanitus) was lots of fun. Crowd weren't into it until the end where we got a huge dance pit going. I wasn't a fan of them on record but seeing them live totally changed my perception of them. Definetly would like to see them again.

The main event...The Cat Empire. Started with one of my favourite songs (Fishies) and the set was brilliant. Personal highlights were The Wine Song, In My Pocket, Days Like These, Two Shoes...ah hell. Too many to name :p

Encore of Rhyme and Reason and The Chariot with a little Michael Jackson moment in the middle rounded off a fantastic night. I've never danced as much as my life. Was dead on my feet by the end, my voice was blown out from singing and shouting but thanks to The Cat Empire, everyone left feeling happy and upbeat.

I would definetly go to see them again and would recommend anyone to go see them, whether you know their music or not. I can imagine they'd be perfect at an outdoor festival. I'd love to see them in their native Australia so any Australians out there, a bed/sofa/floor/kennel/garden for the night would be appreciated :haha:

Anyway, I'm off to enjoy the sun :wavey:

EP Cover Opinions

Current mood: indifferent

Right, I'm putting the finishing musical touches to my "This is Home" EP and have been working on a few ideas for artwork for it. I've uploaded them to my pics bit and welcome any opinions or ideas about them.

Also working on a couple of other songs, one being a reworked version of a song I wrote for my old band. Well, it's actually the original version of it which I've renamed "The Edge". I'm sure I've already said that but hey.

Anyway, hope you're all doing hunky dory. I'll catch y'all later :wavey:

Musical Update

Current mood: cheerful

So it's been a tough week, what with selling my ass out to Facebook (I still feel a bit dirty). But every cloud has a silver lining and that silver lining is that I've got 2 tracks ready to mix and one that needs vocals written for it. Huwway!

Anyway, 1 of them is Under The Sun which took me a bloody age to find a time to record vocals for it, but I'm quite chuffed with how it turned out. The other is a song I wrote for my old band Void but now that we are no longer, I've decided to revisit it with the original lyrics I wrote for it. I've also renamed it to The Edge. Maybe should've given it a U2 vibe :haha:

Anyway, I'll probably get round to mixing the tracks on Wednesday when I've got the house to myself. Might have them up by Thursday if I work at a decent pace.

Oh yeah, and for some reason I'm listening to 5ive...anyone remember them? They were one of the first bands I paid attention to as a wee nipper. :wtf: Jay is a legend.

If ya gettin' down,

The Last Fall

Current mood: pissed off

It's been a long couple of years. I've grown as a person and as a songwriter.

Today however, I devolved as a human being. That's right...I sold my ass out to Facebook. :(

This comes after a year of being hounded by mates to join it to which I replied with a polite "no thank you" :p But yeah...that's me on. Search facebook.com/HonestyorMystery if you feel like adding me (I know...already trying to get my lowly friend count up...)

Anyway, nothing else much has been going on except working and watching the occasional episode of The Sopranos (also harrassed into getting into...)

I hate peer pressure :haha:

Adios,

Home

Current mood: cheerful

Finally finished college :D Happy days, summer has officially begun for me!

So I've been gradually moving my stuff back down from Edinburgh the past week (finishing that off today) so for once all my recording gear is in the one place! I've been doing bits and pieces to get back into the swing of things and finally got a vocal recording done for Under the Sun (a long time coming...). Also recording an electric guitar song because it's been so long since I've done one. It'll no doubt just be a bit of fun with no seriousness in the lyrics at all.

So yeah, that's about it so far methinks. Not really much happening...I'll upload my 2 new tracks once I've given them a wee mix.

Ciao ciao, :wavey:

Scott's Download Review

Current mood: annoyed

So it's pretty much over. Def Leppard not streaming their whole set is a massive disappointment for a lot of people as well as a lack of ZZ Top and Whitesnake but as I was told by a dude in the DL Discussion Forum earlier, it's free so I've just had to suck it up.

Many have deemed this as, on paper, the best Download Festival ever and I would tend to agree. Having attended last year, aside from KISS, it was a little disappointing so it needed to bounce back in a big way. It did just that this year, and then some.

Having missed Friday's shows due to work (missed KSE :() but managed to see Faith No More (even better than I imagined it'd be) I switched on the live feed on Saturday and had a day of proper kick ass metal. Not being a huge metal fan I hadn't heard many of the bands on (I'd heard of most of them but never gave them a shot) but found myself very impressed especially by Five Finger Death Punch. Devildriver were pretty awesome too with their mental pits. Pendulum came on and having seen them last year I was thinking "nah, this is the kind of band you have to experience live to get it". Bull. They just elevated their game so much and by the end of it they really looked like they'd played the best (and obviously biggest) gig of their careers. That was the point I truly wished I was at Download this year. Slipknot are a band I don't like on record but live they just work so well. Corey is an amazing commander of crowds and one of the best frontmen in metal today.

Sunday morning arrived and the laptop was switched on to be greeted by the Stone Gods. Not a band I'd ever given a shot but I was really impressed by their set. Tesla and Skin were also pretty awesome (my Tesla set was cut short because we discovered that microwaves destroy internet apparently...). Missed Black Stone Cherry because I was travelling but I made sure I made it back for Journey, the band I was most looking forward to. Probably the best set of the whole weekend, chatting to people on the forum everyone seemed to be so impressed by them. Missed Dream Theatre too because went out for food which was a bugger but I heard they kicked butt (will have to check their set out on youtube later).

And that was basically the weekend over. No ZZ Top (would've loved to have seen them), no Whitesnake and a measly 2 songs from Def Leppard to come. Can't help but feel a little cheated but I guess that's just life. Overall, I wish I'd been able to go to see all the bands I would've liked to (Dragonforce, Shinedown, Killswitch Engage, ZZ Top, Whitesnake, Def Leppard) because I think that it probably was the best Download Festival there has been and will be for a long time. Any festival with Faith No More, Slipknot and Def Leppard as headliners is going to be insane. I loved the metal on Saturday and the Monsters of Rock Sunday. The coverage has been quite good but I would've liked to have had a camera on the second stage for when there was no live stream on the main stage. Only so much of the same stock footage you can watch over and over again without losing your mind.

Hope anyone who went had a kick ass time, anyone who watched online got to see the bands they wanted to and a welcome return to form for the mighty Donnington.

Thank you, and goodnight. Same time next year?

Sobering Up

Current mood: lethargic

After the drunkest weekend I've had in a long time it appears it's back to the grind ASAP. College has sprung a couple of extra assignments on me before I start my relaxing summer holiday (spent in a hospital kitchen working :p). Will hear back from my project work tomorrow with any luck and with more luck I'll actually have passed the damn thing. If not I won't have the option of coming back next session to do my 2nd year, which would suck a little bit.

Anyway, the weekend was fun. Went out with a girl I know with just the 2 of us for the first time which was really cool. Then one of her mates joined us and I had to head off to someones house in order to drink more and meet another fine female ;)

Sunday was probably the worst, spent the whole day in a guy's garden with 2 bottles of wine, a litre of whisky, some banana stuff that tasted like Calpol (not the good Calpol though :() and numerous beers. I barely remember getting home :haha:

But yeah, start work tomorrow which should be a laugh but will no doubt hurt. Ach well, will be good to see my workmates again :)

Anyway, back to college work methinks. Adios all.

*sigh* Bad Day

Current mood: annoyed

Just going to put my thoughts down and leave...

Today started off badly, got an e-mail about this flat we were meant to be getting. Turns out there's a hell of a lot of hidden costs including a £1195 deposit (I'd been told the £200 I had already paid was the deposit) to be paid by 9th June. There was no way in hell we'd be able to pay that in time so we had to let it go. Not chuffed on that one, probably won't get my £200 back either...

Also, I didn't have enough money in my account today (was going to transfer it over tomorrow funnily enough) to pay my Halls so the bank's gonna charge me and the college will probably get up my ass for it too.

Oh, and having doubts about my studies again. No career at the end of it, just an HND and a feeling of unfulfilment methinks. Feel like I should study something real like Journalism or Law. Something to think about over summer I guess.

Only good thing is heading home tomorrow for a long ass weekend.

Thanks for reading, and goodnight.
/Scott
