So I realized I haven't been to UG in a really long time. It's probably because I've become a little more entrenched in my other obsession, Photography, and I've decided to take that as a career path. I'm going to be going to art school for Photography, and would eventually like to become a professional photographer.
But In the mean time, I will be keeping up with my bass playing as a hobby.
However, over the last few days I've been getting back into bass, and because of that I find myself back lurking the bass forum on UG. I think I'm going to start posting regularly again, or I hope I am at least. I doubt anyone will remember me, but if you're interested in what I've been doing, since I stopped posting almost a year ago.
So, as you might know the day after Thanksgiving in America is called black Friday, its a day when people go mad shopping for crazy deals, usually for christmas presents. Its called black friday because its the one day of the year that customers usually get a profit, through their shopping. I think it is similar to boxing day, not actually sure if i've got that right though. I never actually go shopping on Black Friday, as the stores are absolute madhouses, people fight over who gets to buy an automatic temperature gaged toaster oven for $2.35 off its original price, its ridiculous.
This year i did participate however. Not actually going shopping but i bought something for really cheap. My aunts company gets an employee discount on Mac products (don't ask me how, she works for a newspaper) and this year apple was having a few black friday deals. So my dad decided to let me pick up a brand new, 13 in. 2.2 Ghz processing, 250 gig hd, 2 gb worth of ram Macbook, sort of as an early gift before i go off to college, by summer of '09 (and because he hasn't gotten my a birthday present in i don't know how many years). I got a pretty good deal on it, not the best, but still mac products rarely ever go on sale so technically a $200 employee discount + $101 dollar BF discount is pretty good, especially when coupled with the no shipping cost.
I think got a pretty good deal, especially when i didn't even ask for a laptop
So, I've got this bass, its an Ibanez GSR 200, I've had it for about two and a half years, and it was the first bass I ever owned. I started playing bass a few months before I bought this bass, but for the most part, this bass was what I started with. I've had a few other basses between this and my Schecter, but I've never really felt as comfortable with those other basses as I've had with my Schecter. So now that I've got a steady # 1 bass, I felt like I could take my first, and make it a million times better. Of course if I wanted to I could save up some money and buy a bass made of better wood, one that comes with higher quality parts, or hell even a full scale neck (I say 35 in and 24 frets should be standard, this one sadly is 34 with 22 frets).
I think after that i will have a bass worth playing, not sure I'll use it more than my Schecter but, I will use it more often
The only thing I've finished so far is making it Fretless, tomorrow I'm going to pick up the strings, but I need some more money before I can finish the next four things on my list.
