Mostly a repost of what I said in the straight-edge thread.
I hate when people say "how do you know you wont like it if you never tried it". 1, I know that it's addictive and that shit like that is hard to quit. 2, its (mostly, excluding sex) unhealthy.
I don't look down on people who arent straight edge. My best friend smokes, drinks, whatever. Once I was hanging out with some of his friends, and I was the only one not smoking/drinking. I think I talked more that night than any other day of my life (I'm generally really shy). They joked around about me doing some of it, and I can take that humor, peer pressure doesn't affect me. But they respected what my choices were and took me seriously. One time, I had to take my friend who was drunk off his ass, wobbling around, probably falling if I wasnt there, all the way home from downtown. Took him all the way to his door, and never got a thank you. Just a "I could have gotten home without your help". Where is he now? No idea. Last time I saw him he was panhandling downtown. He doesnt have a home because he wouldnt listen to what his parents asked him to do. He had food, tv, computer, shelter, and he fucked up cause of the shit he did. I think he's 17 now. He has an abusive girlfriend who is the reason he doesnt get to hang out with my best friend (they were like brothers before her).
I dont think pot should be illegal, and the alcohol age limit
should be lowered. I know there ARE people who are under 18 that are
more mature than adults. You can legally drive at 16, but you have to wait three more years to drink? I've never heard of someone killing someone else with alcohol.
I dont force my choices on anybody, my choice to be straight edge, my religion, none of my choices. Supremacists like hardliners who try to use violence, and scare tactics to try and force their beliefs on people, the ones who give straight edge a bad name, dont deserve any respect.
" Don't smoke, don't drink, don't fuck, at least I can fucking think. I can't keep up, I'm out of step with the world."
