And for the accoustic... That's what I thought, it's plugged directly in. Shame, I thought maybe you had found a sweet, secret way of placing the mic or mixing it in.

How did you guess about Satriani ???
The acoustic guitar is Variax 700 from Line6. Sounds like crap as an acoustic, but is pretty decent once plugged in.

I think songs sound alright as they are... i'm a bit confused, what do you mean by the leads being 'scaly' up and down?
