Im not really sure yet... composition AND performance both sound really good
but Im definitely thinking about studying overseas as well with the new VCA and all

Ohh.. I never thought about over-seas study at all!
I know a few people who went to the Perth version of VCA, but none who actually left the country. I guess I just here about everyone coming to Australia, not leaving.

Where are you thinking of?

haha yeah I know about the VCA courses
shame about the complete overhaul of the system, as it is definitely one of the universities Id like to go to when I finish school (if it still exists, and if I can get into it :P)
oh, and the jazz course cost an absolute shitload too

merry christmas

God it really is horrible! So many of the courses are being canceled. Even the way the teachers teach and the courses run is being changed into a more academic and less practical approach. It's NOT gonna be good.

VCA is the place I want to go to too. I want to get into composition. I used to want to get into performance, but I reckon composition will open similar (if not the same) doorways and I will be more interested in it..

What do you reckon? What course are you interested in?

It goes for 5 days and its mainly a course on improvisation
Ive been a bit stuck with jazz improv and I am hoping to get a new look on doing it

cool sounds awesome.
I did a similar course about a year ago at the Vic College of Arts. Each Saturday and Sunday for five weeks we'd spend five hours each day learning about impro. Was pretty cool, learnt a heap! Was really expensive but totally worth it. I also think it's something you just have to do once and then you have a whole lot of information you can learn step by step thoroughly over years.

Ohh come on, I didnt mean that clocks and the circle of fifths had correlations in a conspiratorial manor. I meant it in a theoretical way, (for example) like in the way that the Co5ths has with the Pythagoreans and triangles.

Good threads can go downhill, sorry. That wasn't going to go anywhere as it was.

Consider reading this http://www.constructingtheuniverse.com/bookinfo.ht m , looks into all kind of number (and/thus musical) patterns in nature. :)

hey freepower, do you reckon you could write/record an intermediate/advanced lesson on combining picking with legato? (a la shawn lane, etc.)) it seems like something that doesnt currently have many lessons on...

It generally just comes naturally if you pick well and legato well, but it's certainly a good idea - some combinations are very efficient and sound great. Thanks for the idea! *note taken*

Wow, I checked out Spastic Ink and Weather Report. They're so good. Birdland and To Counter and Groove in E are so choice.

Hmmm...Your profile photo contains a very sufficient shredder that seems capable of what I wish to achieve...

Hope to see you over at the Advanced Techniques forum!
