My name is Jake, I'm in the Canadian prog band Sophist. I compose the music as well as sing and play acoustic guitar. I also play electric for leads on the albums as well as bass guitar and synthesizers. Obviously music is of high importance in my life. I play to compose, because I feel it is one of the most emotionally fulfilling thing we as humans can do. Writing lyrics and/or poetry also falls under this category. Nevertheless, I still love to get around with the guys every week and jam it out, especially on the blues or jazz.
Besides music I have a passion for philosophy. I'm in the process of getting my PhD and I plan to teach it at the U until I get old and cynical (even more so then now xD ). My favourite era of philosophy was the Renaissance, however my favourite philosopher is Aristotle.
I'm also into a few sports, and I'm sometimes considered a health nut. I'm currently 5'9, 145 lbs. and only 7.5% body fat. I no longer play hockey due to sustained injuries, but I'm still a diehard fan. I still work out nearly every day as well as run. I do track & field as well as cross country, and I take a lot of pride in the progress I've made in the last few years. I'm also a huge fan of playing poker! If any goes on pokerstars and wants to play, don't hesitate to ask!
