Hello, Pit Monkeys!
I went to
an all-ages metal show last night. On my way to the show I had a weird vibe, it
was kind of like when I met those guys when wearing my pink floyd shirt that
night in one of my other blogs, same instinct that something crazy was gonna
happen. I went to the show and found out about it last minute pretty much, so I
was an hour and a half late.
When I got
to the show I walked in and it turns out a really good friend of mine, the
manager of the local metal/rock shop, Mia, is a security guard, and she’s the
sponsor. She let me in for free and I got free pizza and water. I talked to her
for awhile and this kid walks up to me looking shitfaced and he says “NIKKOLAI!!”
and I said “….Where have I seen you!?!?!” and basically his parents are
lifelong friends and I used to hang out with him when our parents would hang
out, his name is Matt.
He said “YOURE
COMING IN THE MOSH PIT, AND THEN TO HELL!” and I thought “oh my god this kid is
insane….AWESOME!”. He went back in the main room and I waited in the lobby
while the next band was setting up. Some ridiculously gorgeous blonde girl in a
pink shirt walks up to me and puts her finger under my chin and says I look
like Anthony Kedis, and winked. I’m not fan of the chilis so I had no idea who
he was at the time. I talked to her for a bit and the band started playing so I
went over there.
I started
rocking out to a few songs, there was a lot of energy. I was right at the
front. I asked Mia where the washroom was and she guided me through the crowd.
I saw a metal chick I knew from my school so as I walked by I tapped the
opposite shoulder and kept walking through the crowd lmfao. Came back out and
enjoyed some more metal. The band was done playing and the next one was setting
up, I talked to the guitarist in the band and he actually remembered my name,
cause I swear I remembered meeting him as well somewhere… Weird. I have a video
on my phone of me playing the Walk With Me In Hell solo because when I say I’ve
been playing for 7 months, nobody takes me seriously, so I wanted that to
change. I showed the video to this guy and he said “Damn dude don’t stop
practicing!”, which was cool I guess.
The
headlining band started playing and these guys were good. The guitarist did
this sweep/tapping solo thing, and I swear I couldn’t even see his fingers
move, it was unbelievable. He’s been playing for ten years. The show eventually
ended and my neck was sore… I decided to walk home with Matt. We were pretty
far out from home so we had to take a bus. We missed two of them so we waited
outside for a good 40 or so. We talked about really random stuff, philosophy, music,
etc. We got on the bus and asked the driver where he would let us off, etc. We
didn’t talk on the bus. When we got off he didn’t have a place to crash, so I
said I would take him to my house. We passed second slice and he decided to buy
me a slice. We sat down in there and talked about more philosophy stuff, I wish
I recorded our whole conversation that night, it was really interesting, a
shame I can’t give you all details.
While we
were walking home, at some point he said “We should start a band” and I was actually
thinking of saying the same thing, and it was weird ‘cause this guy hasn’t seen
me play yet. When we got home we snuck into my room and he asked to play my
guitar, he showed me some riffs he wrote and they were good… Really freaking
good riffs. I showed him my material and he thought it was awesome. We spent…
awhile writing material and altering each others riffs to make them better.
We went to
sleep, woke up, and he left. He said we should write some music sometime and I
was down with that. I have a really good feeling about this kid. With every
successful band, it had to be THOSE people in the band, no other combination. I
was paranoid that I wouldn’t find the people I need, but things are falling
into place. I wonder who the rest of my band will be consisted of? Do I know
these people already? Or have I yet to meet them?
I had a
good night, I kind of regret not taking anything further with that blonde girl
at the show, but whatever. I’m starting to get a band going and that’s
definitely more important.
