Favorite bands :
First and foremost, Dir en Grey. This band changed my life, they changed the way I look at the world, the way I play, the way I write, evey aspect of my life, and if you want to start with that "Hurr durr, weaboo" crap then just cut it out.
Aside from Dir en Grey, there are several others, but I won't offer up the typical Wall O' Bands so I'll just pick and choose:
Mastodon, Down, Karnivool, Mammal, The Sword, Gojira, Dozer, Mucc, Alvin Lee, Paul Gilbert, Rush, Bang Camaro, Buckethead, Fightstar, Every Time I Die, Flobots, Hybrid, BT, Solar Fields, Trentemoller, Squarepusher, Underworld, Pendulum, The Prodigy, Juno Reactor.
And all the old classic bands of course, but thats a given since we wouldn't have modern rock/metal if they hadn't been around.
Favorite guitarists :
All the oldies, of course, Hendrix, Page, etc etc. Alvin Lee, although he is an oldie he's horribly underrated, Paul Gilbert, Buckethead, Dave Gilmour, Adam Jones, Les Paul (R.I.P buddy), Mike McCready, Mark Tremonti, Brent Hinds and Bill Kelliher, Kaoru and Die from Dir en Grey.
Favorite bassists :
Again, all the oldies, John Paul Jones, John Entwistle, etc etc.
Billy Sheehan, Geddy Lee, Cliff Burton, John Myung (even though I dislike Dream Theatre), Nick Jones, Dirk Lance, Justin Chancellor, Tim Commerford, Flea, and Toshiya of Dir en Grey.
Also, I appreciate the skill of bass virtuoso's like Victor Wooten and Jaco Pastorius but I've never much cared for Jazz or any of its derivatives.
Favorite books :
All the philosophical classics, Thus Spoke Zarathustra by Nietzsche, Nausea by Jean-Paul Satre, etc etc.
And of course, all the classics, Moby Dick, Wuthering Heights, 1984, The Necronomicon (not a classic in itself, but full of classics) etc etc.
I'm a huge bookworm, so I'll just list my favourite authors:
David Gemmell, James Barclay, James Herbert, Terry Pratchett, J.R.R Tolkien, Andrzej Sapkowski, Chuck Palahniuk, Aldous Huxley, William Gibson, Philip K. Dick, George Orwell, H.G. Wells, H.P. Lovecraft.
Favorite tv :
I don't watch too much TV, there are a few things worth watching though. Skins is highly recommended, its a British drama and its really very good.
I'm a borderline anime-fan, I like anime so long as it strays away from the "EVIL DEMONS ARE COMING I AM STRONG, SCREAMING IS AWESOME WAAAAAAAAUUUGH!" stereotype. Things like Cowboy Bebop, Samurai Champloo, Outlaw Star, Berserk and...well that's it really.
Favorite movies :
Jesus, I'd like to say "too many to mention" but that's too half-arsed...So:
Blade Runner, obviously, anything with Bruce Lee in it, the earlier Jackie Chan movies, every Arnie movie ever made except that dodgy one where he got pregnant...The Rocky films, the Rambo films, the Die Hard series, the Lord of the Rings trilogy, King Kong, the old and new versions, Fight Club, Kung Pow, Super Troopers, The Green Mile, Anchorman, Gladiator, Saw II, not the first, third, fourth, fifth or however many more they make, JUST II, the Pirates of the Caribbean trilogy, the Disney Classics collection (everyone likes at least one Disney Classic), Sin City, Silent Hill, The Libertine, Memoirs of a Geisha, Letters From Iwo Jima, 300, Transformers AND Transformers 2: Revenge of the Fallen, plus the animated Transformers film, Kung Fu Hustle, The Story of Riki, Tropic Thunder, Ong Bak, Warrior King, the ENTIRE works of Studio Ghibli, old Sci-Fi films like The Day the Earth Stood Still (not the awful remake), War of the Worlds (not the awful remake), Forbidden Planet (not the awful remake, yes they ARE remaking it.)
