I have been playing guitar since the late 70's early 80's.
Played in a lot of bands and have seen a lot of crazy stuff.
I have been teaching guitar for about six or seven years.
I also design and build guitars.
The band I am in right now is a five piece jam band called Freefield.
we play jazz funk metal, I call it ambient funk. It's spacey and combines a lot of elements from different styles of music.
I don't believe in playing one style. It's too limiting.
I played the blues for years. Before it became popular.
And now if someone refers to me as a blues player i want to smack them.
I am a rock guitarist. The blues will always be a part of me, but i find it truly boring because I have played it for so long. I'd rather be thought of as a jazz guitarist, because I am always trying to stretch out and do something new. The study of jazz standards has increased my understanding of harmony and theory in ways I can't even describe. I am not into classical guitar, and not a fan of rock based on classical forms. Do you notice how the guitar has become codified?
