Man, People usually say that no good metal comes out these days; and it's all just basically a rip off of the good ol' day's. Music has defianitly progressed since. This is my first blog, and it's just going to be some CD reviews of some CD's I've picked up lately. I love my epic/melodic type deal; be it Melo-death, Folk, Thrash, Progressive, shit even fucking metalcore. I'd only reach out to the better of metalcore bands; most of that scene it's quite shitty. But I do enjoy death metal quite a bit, I love my necrophagist, nile..etc.
1) Forever In Terror - Restless in the Tides
These guys are a pretty tight band; My band, Destroy Within opened up for these guys not too long ago, and it was the most fun we've had; they're really nice guys, very dedicated to their music. Their debute CD "Restless in the Tides" out on Metalblade records was defaintly a solid release.
It was brutal and pretty. They do have Metalcore elements like the big and long breakdowns with powerful drumming. The songs are well crafted and mature for a
band so young. Aggressive songs shift into melodic mode before cranking up again. It's an effective way to
avoid monotony. The vocals are agressive screams with Melodic singing at times; even has a guest vocalist from Chimaira. I really enjoyed this album and will be looking forward to their next release.
2) The Agonist - Once Only Imagined
I saw these guys live a long time ago at the Threat Signal - Under Reprisal CD release party, they had a different name back then "The Tempest," they were an amazing band with a chick vocalist; who is a beauty; in all honesty; she was so stunning as a vocalist and the beauty of a rose; I wished she was my future wife, haha. Anyways; Once Only Imagined was release by Century Media records. It was a stunning debute release.
Once Only Imagined has a lot of metalcore elements. There are
tons of breakdowns, but also influences of melodic death metal and a
few sprinkles of gothic metal. There are clear contrasts of melody and
aggression, beauty and anger.
